Yeah, it really felt like teams were going with their second or third best options in some cases. I mean, Lovie Smith? Really? Dude got canned at Illinois last year, and that's worthy of a THIRD NFL chance?

Was it in a dumpster?

What a total dirtbag! These guys have the world at their feet, fame, money, and they just can't handle it. I hope this idiot gets banned from the NFL, but we all know he'll get a 2 game suspension and that will be that. A lot more information is now out there on this, making him look even worse, so the blip I am posting below has been expanded on in several places...He should be out the entire season at the very least.

Alvin Kamara was arrested in Las Vegas for "battery resulting in substantial bodily harm."

The quote comes directly from the Las Vegas Police Department. Kamara was arrested hours after the conclusion of the Pro Bowl. The LVPD's statement states the incident occurred in a nightclub on February 5th. That was the day before Kamara participated in the Pro Bowl. The statement also notes the investigation into Kamara is still ongoing. New Orleans and the league should put out statements of their own soon, but they will likely let the legal situation play out before taking any action.

I had to do a double take because I thought the Texans hired someone off of the streets to coach. Which maybe a better option.

The one issue that I see is with many players having incentives for making the Pro

Bowl roster less of them would earn those without a game. Having a game forces some players to drop out for different reasons allowing alternates to earn those bonuses as well.

I have no issues with less bonuses being handed out. Getting a pro bowl bonus because the people that actually were voted in just decided not to play doesn't really warrant a bonus, IMO. [sarcasm]Maybe everyone should just bow out so everyone else can be an alternate and everyone get a bonus?[/sarcasm]

It is technically true...

So is paying Lovie Smith to coach technically paying him to tank the season? :laughing

This whole coach hiring period was weird. Normally things to move pretty quickly but everything seemed dragged out. There were reports that a team hired a guy and then it turned out they didn't. Leftwhich was supposedly hired by the Jags and then like a week later it turns out he wasn't and had removed his name from consideration. Dan Quinn was interviewed by almost every team but decided to turn them all down. Jim Harbaugh was supposed to be the hand picked coach for the Raiders but he never even interviewed there. All of those things are really weird. Maybe teams knew something was coming from Brian Flores and that put a hold on everything.

Leftwich supposedly turned down the Jaguars job because of the GM. Unknown if those rumors are true or not. Harbaugh can rub owners and executives the wrong way which is why he wasn't even interviewed for the Bears job. I think the Raiders probably thought the same about Harbaugh and just didn't want to deal with the baggage that Harbaugh would bring. This was the right move as that team already has enough baggage as is.

I think most teams went with safe bets this year but I am still confused how Bieniemy isn't a head coach already. That is the only baffling one to me unless the Saints want to wait a year or two before hiring someone to take over. That team is being held back due to their cap situation and probably don't want to bring in a HC until that is fixed.

I don't think any coach really wants the Jacksonville or Houston jobs at this point in time. I am fairly confident that some have turned downed actual interviews for those two jobs especially for Houston.

I think Harbaugh likes to keep Michigan thinking he might bolt for the NFL so they pony up more money.

OMG. This is all just TOO good. Thank you. Thank you. Epic stuff. The Football Gods are speaking it would appear. And, they have a glorious sense of humor. Imagine, just imagine, being a Texans fan in 2022. What is life like?

Well, until this year, Harbaugh was on the ropes at U-Mich, so I doubt this was a money play. I read that they made some changes to his contract to be more incentive based. I'm guessing he was trying to cash in on his last year's success incase he can't replicate it.

The sports here in MN was all a twitter (pun intended) over Harbaugh coming in. When he unceremoniously left, it sounded like the "interview" barely happened. I think he was thinking he was going to be crowned coach and when he found out he was competing against others, just slithered back to Ann Arbor. Or maybe the sports casters here are just idiots...probably both.

Harbaugh was in SF with the Vikes' new GM...seemed to be a connection there worth exploring simply based on familiarity, and the perception was that Vikes' ownership where the ones who needed to be sold on Harbaugh being the guy - perhaps once Adofo-Mensah started listening to Harbaugh he suddenly remembered what led to things souring as fast as they came together for the 49ers when he was head coach and things fizzled quickly.

The interview did indeed happen, and it lasted most of a day - the end result was no offer was made by the Vikings to Harbaugh from what I gather, so he slithered back to Michigan and put on brave face saying he didn't really want the NFL job even though he would've jumped if he was actually offered it.

I wasn't implying it didn't physically take place...but that it quickly dematerialized to nothing happening. I've had interviews where I know in 5 min that I won't be hiring this person. I got the impression (at least via the sport announcers) that something like that occurred.

I think the coach hiring cycle this year was interesting for a few reasons. The narrative was initially about Jim Harbaugh, but reports all seem to lead to him wanting the Gruden deal (10/100) and to have his annointment as a team savior. Chicago reportedly called unofficially and quickly backed away once they heard the terms. LV did the same. Minnesota brought him in for an interview, but Harbaugh was expecting a royal wedding and didn't want to have to compete like a lowly HC candidate. It seemed like there was a handful of coaches interviewing everywhere. First via zoom and then in-person all while coordinating the teams in the playoffs. Couple that with 4 of the openings also conducting GM interviews simultaneously and most teams desires to get a GM before a HC hired, that further dragged things out as the top options for HC (not Jax or Houston) had to play out. Jacksonville is just a mess and the whole ordeal with Leftwich reportedly making his demand to not work with Baalke as GM known, you'd think that would have came out sooner before he became a finalist. Then add in the late entry by New Orleans into the mix as Payton stepped away.

I think most of the teams did pretty well in their search and can't find too much fault in them. LV took the biggest shot with McDaniels in a boom or bust move. Houston is just wow. I'm shocked that McCown was even considered with zero coordinator experience. It all seemed to line up for Flores and that would have been a good hire for them. I honestly don't hate the Lovie move as it fits with what they are doing: short term deal to kick the can, figure out the Watson ordeal and then get a better vector of where you are going as a team in a few years when Lovie is probably looking to retire. If they do love McCown, try him out at OC. Not going to hurt anything with that team and position him as a possible HC who is familiar/earned the teams respect before taking over. Outside of that, New Orleans probably has the biggest head scratcher with Allen. Perhaps they are doing the same thing as Houston. Kick the can with something familiar while you wait what Payton chooses in a year or two and reset your cap/rebuild. I'm looking forward to following how some of these moves play out. Is Daboll going to have offensive success without Josh Allen in NY? Can the Bears surround Justin Fields with talent and open things up? Can McDaniel bring over that SF flair to the running game in Miami? Can LV take that next step and really compete in the AFC?

I don't see the Saints hiring all that confusing it makes a ton of sense for them to do this. They can't bring in any FA and they don't have a QB so that means they are going to have to go into a rebuild. Bringing in a new HC for next season doesn't really make sense and hiring from within is the better move. After next year or after the 2023 season is when I would start to look for a new HC assuming the promoted coordinator isn't working out.

I don't think it does make a ton of sense because it's a perfect time to bring in an up and coming offensive HC option who can learn on the job rent-free and possibly even help you identify some gems through the draft or development. Sure you don't have a QB, but you're very likely to get a top pick the next two years to take your shot while building a foundation of a few young building blocks from 2022 and 2023 and resetting your cap situation. The Allen selection only really makes sense if Payton takes a 1 or 2 year leave of absence and then comes back. Allen mans the helm and respectfully steps back to DC once his buddy comes back.

Yes, but I'm sure the players have an issue with less bonuses.

Looks like Rodgers may be confirming something early….

A pretty hollow award when the 4x MVP can't seem to win super bowls, or get to them for that matter.

Except the MVP is and always has been a regular season award.

As a Packer fan I too am extremely disappointed in Rodgers' playoff performances, but that doesn't mean he hasn't deserved every regular season MVP award he was won.

If Rodgers does indeed win, that means the Green Bay Packers had the MVP (or co-MVP in the one year it has happened) in 7 of the past 28 NFL seasons, and in 10 of the 66 seasons the NFL has given the award. I don't know how that compares to other teams, but that looks pretty impressive.

It's almost like the Super Bowl is a team achievement and the MVP is an individual award. The only other plausible candidate was Brady who didn't advance any further. Unless you are suggesting he get the MVP for winning the Super Bowl last year, which, yeah, no.

I think Rodgers would have to throw 75 touchdowns to win it next year though. He will get hit hard with fatigue now that they've continued losing.

I have to laugh a bit though. You were all over these parts calling people homers because they said it was obvious Rodgers was going to win and it would not be all that close. That is exactly what happened and, well, you were being a homer.

The Vikings are hiring old friend, Ed Donatell, to be their defensive coordinator.

His Green Bay legacy for the sadists out there:

Yeah that hurt and was inexcusable, but it didn't lose the game either. You can lay that blame on Favre and one of the worst throws I've seen in my life. His performance in the Raiders game a few weeks earlier when Favre's dad died was the worst thing that could've happened. Favre was throwing those exact same passes into double and even triple coverage and completing them. I wonder if Favre would've thrown that pass against the Eagles if those passes had been intercepted in Oakland.
