If you can't use a "garbage time" long reliever with a 6 run lead, then there is no point in having that reliever on the roster, period.

I agree that there is never a point in having a 10th man in the bullpen and probably regardless of who it is I wouldn't trust them with any lead.  Fun game today, I like seeing the Brewers hit the baseball.

BTW, Luis Urias Update:

He is definitely healthy. He snagged an absolutely wild throw to third, in the dirt, by Harold Chirino on the bag at third - a key play to hold the tie in the eighth inning. He absolutely full stretched to snag this ball and maintained his foot on the bag. He's ready.

The knee injury, followed by a short season marred by Covid, seems like a way more plausible reason than one guy vaugely saying "he looks away during at bats" for a .400-ish point drop in OPS.

I agree that the knee injury impacted him & his otherworldly production

I also believe that he’s lost all confidence

His interviews on the subject (most recently SNB) give me the impression that he’s lacking confidence

I’m sure they want him to get more ABs since he missed virtually all of the spring training games.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Not sure why no Gustave for this inning.

Maybe they are planning for him to be the first reliever behind Ashby tomorrow.

Hey, the Brewers are back to 0 for their season run differential. Why not break into positive territory tomorrow!

Not just “at Night” anymore.

100%. I am merely pointing out: that move indicates the leg is fully healed. It was an incredible play.

You thinking Reds or Braves? Maybe he and Acuna will make their season debuts together.

Personally, I want Luis out of Biloxi asap. They're playing extremely frustrating baseball as of late. I don't want any of that bad juju finding coattails up to the Big Club! ?

And with a little bit of help from the Mets bullpen, the Brewers could have sole possession of first place for the first time this year. If I'm not mistaken, it took until late June for us to get to that point last year. With our upcoming schedule, which includes the Pirates, Cubs, Reds, and Marlins, we could start to build a nice little cushion. Of course, we're not even into May, yet, but any day in first place is a happy day for me.

I agree that confidence is a factor.  I don't think Darvish's comment had anything to do with it.  I think he got hurt.  I think that was compounded by the short spring training and a short season in 2020.

I think he has had a hard time coming back, and has been hard on himself trying to find his stroke, and has (possibly) tinkered a lot/too much with his swing, stance, mechanics, and even the mental aspect of his batting to get back to where he thinks he can and should be.

+4 wins on the Pythagorean after only 18 games is pretty impressive.

Best “fun differential” in MLB

Actually, the Brewers were in first place alone for about two weeks last season in late April and early May and reached a record of 17-10 before the slide that included the four game sweep by the Phillies dropped them below .500.

They returned to first place in late June and stayed there the rest of the season.
