It wouldn’t be a trip to Pittsburgh without at least one rain delay.

Tonight’s game could be a candidate.

If it happens, I hope it isn’t one of those mid game delays that cuts Burnes’ appearance short.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Again the opponent has their lineup posted on game day well ahead of the Brewers posting theirs ... is this a strategy of Craig Counsell's?

What advantage does he get by posting it earlier? Probably no real advantage by posting it later either, but seems like a non-issue (unless you're trying to set your fantasy lineup).

I'm guessing there's zero strategy involved. He probably just has a certain gameday routine and he happens to get to the lineup later than other clubs.

It’s my understanding that teams are required to submit  their lineups to the Commissioner’s office, and have them processed and approved, before releasing them to the media or posting them to players. The goal is to prevent bettors from getting inside information about who is and isn’t in the lineup before it is available to the general public.

This submission usually takes place 2-3 hours before game time.

I doubt if Counsell is trying to gain any competitive advantage by posting later. Last night the Brewers had their lineup out before the Pirates.

I heard the exit velocity of the lineup submission was their best of the year and they still lost.  Go figure.

Manager’s have to submit the lineups to the commissioners office first which normally happens around 2-3 hours before game time.  The submission then goes to the betting partners.  The manager then can release the lineup to players in the stadium once they get confirmation or 15 minutes after submission whichever comes first.

When that gets posted to the media is all dependent on MLB and it’s process.  So more than likely Counsell has submitted the information about the same time as the other team does.  It just doesn’t always get posted at the same time.

Looks like the window to get this game played is between 7 and 10, because after that it's gonna get ugly. At least for our sake with Burnes pitching it won't be a situation where he pitches an inning or two and then has to be removed from the game after a 1-2 hour rain delay.

Thanks for all that good info; it still remains a mystery why the Brewers lineup is posted for public consumption much later than their opponents almost always.  Very curious ... I think Counsell is just very deliberate and ponders and mulls and meditates and agonizes on his lineup longer than other managers.

Good plan to get a lead in case the storms do come later.

Hiura vs a righty pitcher.  Results guaranteed.

No way I'd call results guaranteed. I've seen him strikeout/flyout/groundout plenty of times.

Homer’s are fun……especially 3 in an inning……

I was at the game where they hit the 5 in an inning.  Absolutely incredible.  Side note to that game- I ate probably 15 hot dogs during the game.

Joining the game late … wow - what a start!

I’d love to see that “rare” offensive outbreak tonight for nine innings with Burnes on the mound

We need a game where the offense, defense, & pitching all thrive

I get that you loathe Hiura, but my post was somewhat tongue in cheek, given that I'd much prefer to see him play/bat vs righties than lefties.
