The team that’s won the 6th most games in baseball since 2018 with a payroll that is a fraction of their competition is bad at scouting?

Tough crowd.

When I said I was guessing light hitting SS I wasn't joking or boasting.  I saw the board from about pick 10 on and the only thing that came to mind was they wouldn't take any of the good hitting OF, or the pitchers, they were going to target a light hitting SS.  BINGO!  Joe doesn't know much about the prospects for 2022 or the draft got it right on.  That tells you all you need to know about the quality of the Brewers scouting.

No one is questioning their prowess with pitching( I hope) but they haven't produced a hitter in years, so it's near impossible to say they're drafting hitters well

So what's the plan? To add more loft? Will that be enough to add a ton of production? He's not good now, playing in a bad conference.

huh? What's wrong with a 1.002 OPS? How is .344/.460/.544 "not good?"

Shocking.

Yes its shocking that I am not interested in the next Alcides Escobar but if you like punchless middle infielders he's your guy.

There are a fair amount of hitters doing well in the minors and I suspect we'll graduate at least one pretty soon.

This draft is such a crapshoot. I'm amazed people get upset about it.

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006

The idea of saving money means you think he was overdrafted to pick a guy that falls later.

Then you think at some point the Brewers would get out of the bottom third of system rankings.

For those scouting college stat lines to proclaim someone "light hitting" you might want to go back and take a peak at Joey Wiemer's college stats.

Though not a fan of Wiemer personally that guy is a physical specimen and this pick is the polar opposite.

A lot of the people complaining about a weak hitting shortstop with no power are also the ones complaining about the Brewers being an all or nothing type of an offense.  It is comical really.

These things take time. Hiura was drafted six years ago now & for as terrible as he’s been (1.3 WAR), the only 2017 1st round hitter with more career WAR is Adam Haseley (1.6 WAR) who was selected one pick earlier at #8.

Frelick, Wiemer, Mitchell and Turang are all at AA or above, Black could be joining them after the draft. Obviously Chourio wasn’t drafted, but he was scouted.

Agreed.  Some of these folks have to be trolling.  There's just no way someone disagrees with absolutely everything; is there?  haha

I am all for adding some pure hitters but this guy looks like he will have trouble hitting the ball out of the infield. Was hoping for pitching or a potential third baseman and not a puny middle infielder.

I'll trust the other teams that consistently pick late in the first round and consistently produce MLB players. i.e. that ain't the Brewers. The crazy thing is that everyone thinks the current administration is great at picking pitchers.  Hader, Woodruff and Peralta were all Melvin picks/pickups.  Sure the pitching lab has helped develop them and I will give them credit for that, but in identifying talent Stearns is getting a lot of credit from help from the previous GM.

Brewers Fans: They can only score if they hit home runs and they strike out way too much.

Also Brewers Fans: I hate it when they draft high contact guys that don't strike out because they don't hit enough home runs.

Not just “at Night” anymore.

The Brewers current lineup doesn't have one everyday position player drafted by the team and that is a major failure over many drafts.

Peralta was a Stearns move

Compared to other college 1st round picks, that's actually straight up terrible. Then you should realize that he's playing in a terrible conference.

Those of us who don’t like the pick aren’t basing our opinions on just stats.  We read what the so called experts have written. You can’t just dismiss their opinions because they HAVE seen these guys play.
