He was on the phone, they had a guy warming up in the pen.

Ray Charles could see Lauer didn't have it today.  He struggled all afternoon.

"All afternoon"?  He had retired 7 of the last 8 before the start of that inning.

You don't panic because a guy gives up a leadoff hit.

This lefty is having trouble with lefties.

But no trouble with Hiura.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

He was walking guys the first 3 innings.  Lauer usually doesn't do that.  Two of those scored.

I was trying to listen to the Brewers' game. But instead I got some team that's getting hits and scoring runs.  I'll pretend it's the Brewers and take it.

I get all teary eyed every time a player gets their first hit.  The family shots always get me.

I remember sitting a row behind BJ Surhoff’s family when he got his first hit in the second game of the 1987 season. That was pretty cool.

His Dad passed away from a heart attack about 2 weeks later.

Apparently they just had to call Mitchell up for Yelich and the offense to take off.

The thing is, Mitchell might be well served if he emulates Yelich earlier this year where he ground everything into the the turf. That would work for Mitchell.

This pitching staff just seems to lose focus with two outs. You have to question the pitching coach at some point. It's terrible.

Do they try to get too fine instead of being aggressive?

Seems that way but it also seems like they just lose focus with the fact they are almost out of the inning. How they just lose it so quickly is very strange. It's everyone too not one or two guys.

This is the real reason for watching these wonderfully silly games we call sports.

Also worth noting the spike Yelich might get in his stats from the banning of the shift next year...

The same could be said for a lot of guys though. If he continues to be the same guy we have seen most of this year, I'd expect his OPS+ to not really change all that dramatically.

I wouldn't be so sure considering all of the line-outs to the right side he's piled up over the course of this season. Of all the players in baseball, the stats pretty clearly show that he'll be one of the main beneficiaries. He does need to elevate the ball more frequently, for sure.

What is happening? Are we allowed

to score like this!?
