Hopefully the offense can get on a role. We had only 9 hits in 2 games and really only produced 4 runs (2 more unearned). I am calling a big game from Keston or Renfrow (if Keston doesn't start).

Just brutal that Alexander is the best we can put out there as we move closer to "must win" territory. A huge disappointment from what was recently one of the best rotations in baseball.

Consider it a bullpen game, and you might feel better.  :)

Yeah Woody and Burnes have been pretty consistently good all year but other than that, the starting rotation has been a disappointment.

Injuries to Houser and Peralta and perhaps the rushed Ashby project didn't help this season, no doubt.

Eric Lauer has been scuffling lately, but overall he has been quite solid.

IF this turns into a bullpen game for the Brewers which I am afraid it is, these are not encouraging stats for our new relievers from the Padres and Rangers!

....

Taylor Rogers gave up 1 homerun in just over 41 innings for the Padres.
Taylor Rogers has given up 4 homeruns in just over 14 innings with the Brewers.

Rogers ERA with the Padres:  4.35
Rogers ERA with the Brewers:  5.65

Matt Bush's ERA has jumped from 2.95 with the Rangers to 4.11 with the Brewers.
Matt Bush gave up 5 HR's over 37 innings with the Rangers while giving up 4 HR's with the Brewers in 15 innings.

Whew!  That's not good!

The Reds will certainly put up a better fight than the Giants. Unfortunately the first night will be the toughest, Alexander is not good and the Brewers get to face a tough lefty, when pretty much every lefty is tough for them.

Thought experiment, are the Brewers splits bad enough for a middle of the road pitcher to just attempt switching hands against us...

Small not being ready for the big leagues certainly hurts.

That, and Ashby really not being ready for an increased role either. This would've been the year for Aaron to give us 2-3-4 innings at a crack, either as a bullpen guy or "opener". Unfortunately injuries sped that timeline up.

In the scope of things we've had a reasonable amount of starting pitching injuries this year (that they seemingly all hit when the bullpen got hammered at the same time less so), but every starter underperformed last year. Burnes and Woody have still been fine overall, but still that step back. Small and Ashby being negatives was compounded by Lauer being a bit worse and Houser also not quite slotting in as expected.

Any news about how long Freddy P will be sidelined?

He went on the IL so that’s at least 15 days.

Unless and until I hear otherwise I don’t expect to see him again this season.

With Lauer out with “elbow fatigue” and expected to miss at least one start, the Brewers are going to be scraping the barrel for SP.

The two off days next week will help, but if Lauer is going to miss more than one start, the Brewers are really going to be stretched with only one more off day the rest of the way. The stretch of games on 10 straight days that includes the series with the Mets and Yankees could really be brutal.

While the two wins yesterday were very much welcome and needed, the offense is going to do more than produce 4 earned runs and 9 hits like they did in the two games yesterday against the dregs of the Giants staff. The opponents’ pitching and hitting is going to be getting a lot better than what they faced yesterday, even from the Reds, much less the Cards, Yanks, and Mets.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Lindblom threw last night so he could've easily been held back a day but wasn't.

So that's where we are. Alexander is out there because they view him as better than Lindblom?.

Just not a lotta options.

Yeah I know Alexander is the best we've got, that's the sad thing.

I also follow the Mariners and they have demoted two starters to the bullpen who are both better than Alexander. Chris Flexen has an ERA+ of 96 which wasn't good enough to stay in the rotation. And even so they are only 2 1/2 games better than the Brewers this year.

Freddy is a great pitcher but he doesn't seem to be very durable.
