Living in Phoenix I miss Menards all we have here are Home Depot, Lowe's and Harbor Freight (worst store ever!).  If someone ever opened a Menards in Phoenix they would make a lot of money as Lowe's and Home Depot just do not cut it for some things.

This is always my complaint t Brewers games, it's a constant thing and annoying as hell.  I also love actually missing game action while people are standing, shuffling along in the rows in front of me, on their way out (or back in) to get food, use restrooms, or whatever.

Back in the day, the ushers didn't let you go back to your seat until the inning ended or between half innings.  Wish they would start doing this again.

Went to the game last night and sat in 235.  Fortunately, there were only a handful of times people got up.  The thing I don't understand is if your seat is at the FAR end of the row, why are you walking in at seat #1?

We had the obligatory 2-hour kicking the back of the seat by the kids behind us.  At least we didn't have beer spilled on us this time.  I'll take my victories where I can get them.

It's more humorous than bugging me. I'm looking to replace some decorative fencing. The Menards ad has one of the styles I like on sale this coming week. $24.69 a panel on sale with a regular price of $24.99. That is not enough of a sale price to make me go out of my way to purchase it this week.

Okay, but the 11% rebate will get you running in the door.

I hate menards, in just about every aspect.

My family runs a very well known 40 year old seasonal business. For almost 2 year now, our small local town government has decided to make our lives a living hell all because of zoning. Originally we hired a local attorney to help us out and she did absolutely nothing for us.

Now we have hired a more aggressive attorney to try and get some results. The odds of us having to sue the town is high over all of this. The local townspeople would NOT be happy to know that they are going after us. This is all stupid.

Related to the housing stuff in the "pointless" thread, but this is about the renting world, not housing sales.

My son just got his first real job, straight out of grad school.  His job is in Missoula Montana.  Before asking why Montana, it's a simple answer really, he loves it out there and the area provides all he NEEDS for his adventurous spirit.  This is a kid who has completed the Appalachian Trail (took him about 5 months) and the Pacific Rim trail (also about 5 months), so a state like Montana provides him with what he needs to be happy in life.  lol

He is temporarily staying with an acquaintance (who is charging him $800 a month for a bedroom in the basement) in a nearby town to Missoula, and looking for an apartment.  The location isn't ideal, and he really wants to be in Missoula, rather than the 30 minute commute to and from work.

What is bugging me is the fact that all these places renting apartments require proof that you make triple the cost of rent before they will even look at your application.  I'm talking about triple your take home pay, not your your gross pay.  He is taking home about 3,000 per month (just under 50K Net per year), so any apartment that is over $1000 per month is out of his reach.  I'm not even complaining about the actual rent cost, which is out of control, but just the fact that the poor kid can't even apply to rent anywhere because he doesn't make enough money , and almost everywhere he has found is $1200 or above.  I'm not even complaining about his sucky payscale, but that can and will improve in time.

Just doesn't seem right.

Also, he has to pay between $30-$40 to submit an application to every place he applies for.  These places are making a mint on application fees alone.  It's just gross.  Even worse, he can't fill out the applications anyway because he doesn't meet the first requirement of triple your take home pay.

On top of all that, when submitting an application, they also require a deposit of $500 or more.  So if someone is applying at 3 different places, they are on the hook for $1500, and they might not be accepted in any of those places.  Yes, if they aren't accepted, they get the deposit back, but not the $30-$40 application fees.  That deposit is a lot of money to pay out even if you get it back, for someone starting out.

Geez, these kids do the right thing, get an education, then meet nothing but roadblocks when they finally get a job.  Not to mention, he has to wait 90 days for his insurance with his employment to kick in, but I won't get into that.  Also, his car insurance jumped about $200 every 6 months just by moving states...

It's all pretty deflating.

I see a few rentals for under $900 in that area and if his car insurance jumped that much were they under you previously?  They were probably receiving your discounts you had.  I would switch insurance companies if the price increased that much.  Also check different insurance companies and try and find extra discounts like the college they graduated from there are also some professions or professional groups that can get discounts.

The $200 jump sounds like it is a horrible insurance company or it is time to shop for a new one.

He already switched car insurance.  Best deal he could find still cost him $100 more, but that is better than $200.  He was no longer under my policy, so that didn't have anything to do with it.

I haven't come across anything in that price range, and he has looked high and low.   He doesn't qualify for low-income housing either.  He did find a place that did 2.5 rather than triple the cost of the rent, so he might try that place.  Biggest issue is that his choices are severely limited, he is stuck with basically no choices and will have to take whatever he can get.

#1 is low income, he doesn't qualify

#2 he contacted, waiting for reply

#3 he contacted, waiting for reply

#4 are all $1100 ish.  There is one available in that complex for $950 but that was a termination lease, so in August, it will go up to match the others in price.

#5 is also low income.

Thanks for looking around though, like I said, he has searched high and low, as have I.  lol

Yup, he has thought of that too.

He has some feelers out there.  🙂

Is Montana a No fault state? My car Insurance tripled when I moved to MN years ago because of that reason.

I truly have no idea what that even means, but with a jump like that, I wouldn't be surprised.

In Wisconsin you only need basic liability coverage, No fault is an extra mandatory coverage that covers your medical expenses regardless of who causes the accident. So if you are a good driver it just adds to your cost.

Just living too close to Minnesota caused our rates to jump when we moved here 25 years ago.  Our agent said " you will do most of your driving in Minnesota" as a reason for the increase.  25 years later I want to tell her that "no, we don't do most of our driving in Minnesota."

My insurance just renewed, today in fact, and ended up switching carriers because mine was jumping up a couple hundred.  My broker sent me this as to why most are raising prices.

Yup, makes sense.  With all the distracted drivers on their damn phones while driving, it is no wonder there are more accidents and more deaths.  Of course, those of us who don't do that crap have to pay for those that do.

I am always shocked and appalled every time I get in the car and go someplace, at the amount of people paying more attention to their phones than the road.  It is truly an epidemic.

While on the subject, I'm also damn sick and tired of people on their phones when lights turn green, and having to sit there while they finally figure out they can go.  Just freaking p's me off to no end.  Happens all the time, and I mean ALL the time!

And no discounts for the tech that prevents accidents like lane departure warning or automatic braking.

It's not all phones that are distracting people. Most new vehicles have so much tech in them they basically are phones themselves. I've been driving our van for almost 4 years and I still don't know how to do things quickly and without looking like changing the station and adjusting the temperature because I have to push that button to get to this screen and then slide this bar. Just simple things like that make me a less of an attentive driver than my phone does.

Sorry dude, I can't agree with anyone that says phones are not distracting.

I'm not even talking about people who talk on their phones through their car.  I'm talking about the constant amount of people I see with their physical phones on their ear, or holding up to their mouths while trying to maneuver in traffic, through round-abouts, and such.

It's just disgusting to me that there so many people out there willing to put the safety of others at risk while they talk on the damn phone.  If it was only them at risk, I couldn't care less, but with their absolute selfishness, they are fine with risking the lives of others.

My insurance and others I have seen reduce the rate for automatic braking. I want to say mine also reduces it for blind spot monitoring/warning.

They left out the part about the increase in carjackings and car thefts.  I'm guessing the increase in reckless driving is covered in the increase in speed and increase in claims parts.

On that note, to what extent is everyone seeing vehicles crash into buildings where you live?  I swear that in Chicago it's on the news every week.

Sadly, there are a lot of people out there, especially older ones, who drive cars with one foot on the gas and the other one on the brake. It’s common for them to accidentally floor it when they try to hit the brake.

I put an air tag in my car so that I can chase it down if it ever gets stolen.

It is my feeling that the pandemic reduction in police enforcement of driving violations was a grave error and we desperately need to more widely use camera technology to enforce traffic violations.

No just no.  They do that here in Phoenix and you get a ticket at times when the light is green and you are in the middle of the intersection when it turns yellow.  Not a violation but you still get a ticket and have to fight it.

It got really bad down here for awhile.  They have stopped with the traffic cameras as they were horrible.
