Did anybody respond with, "The Bible?"  😉

Even though it was in Texas, surprisingly, no.

My wife was given a $20 gift card for Grubhub.  Last night, I wanted to use it to order Chipotle.  To use it, you have to go through the Grubhub website, and my first red flag was that everything on the menu was priced $3-4 higher than if I just simply ordered through Chipotle.  Ok fine, our two burritos will cost $23 and I'll have to spend a couple of my own dollars, still a cheap meal.  By the time I got to the place to checkout, the price jumped to $34 without a tip for the driver.  There were over $9 in various service fees.  Had I proceeded with the order, those two burritos would have pushed close to $40 after I tipped the driver, which would have been $20 out of pocket and that's more than the cost of just going to Chipotle and getting them.

That is beyond ridiculous.  Why people use these sites is beyond me.

I'm struggling to think of any time that I've gotten food delivery that wasn't pizza and/or for a large gathering.  I always go carryout as you get the food faster and less things that can go wrong along the way.

Yes, the restaurants price the food higher because Grubhub takes a large percentage out in fees and they aren't going to eat that.

Because they want food that isn’t deliverable by the place they are ordering food from. A lot of people use it in bigger cities because A) they don’t have time to pick it up themselves (like most people on a 30min lunch) and B) they don’t own a car.

I think I have done it twice in my life, both of which in massive snowstorms. Once was because I wanted Sushi and the other time I wanted Pizza at a place doesn’t deliver themselves.

Im more of a pickup person though. Only times I ever get delivery is in a massive snowstorm or if I just got home after a big road trip and getting back in my car is not happening. Even direct from a pizza place makes a $12 order quickly $10+ more. Either I am ordering pizza to be cheap or I might as well just go sit down to eat versus a fee+tip.

We order from those apps several times per month. It’s the price you pay for convenience. I expect it to be $50-60 for two people. The menu price at the restaurant is irrelevant, that’s a different experience.

I would say it’s more of a luxury than us being lazy. We don’t do our own grocery shopping either but I think we end up saving money and eating healthier because it’s easier to avoid impulse purchases when using Instacart.

Lately I've been seeing online pics of restaurant gourmet burgers overloaded with ridiculous amounts of toppings.  They're not unlike the behemoth bloody marys made with a platter of add-ons in and around the drink.

The burgers are totally unmanageable, such that one would need to use a knife and fork to eat them.

If you're ordering these stupid burger monstrosities, please stop.  It's simply way too much food and if people stop ordering them, maybe restaurants will stop offering them.

I LOVE THOSE BURGERS!!!!!! I will not stop ordering them in fact I will now order more of them now!

Maybe you should get bigger hands or a bigger mouth! Did you think about doing that instead?

With limited exceptions, men shouldn't wear shorts. Why don't more men care how they present themselves anymore?

Unless the circumstances or event prohibits it, I constantly wear shorts if it's 60s or warmer (in Wisconsin, so that's maybe a little less than half the year?).

When we had softball open gyms, we had an ass't coach who would wear shorts throughout the winter. I'm talking going to/from his car, everything.

My dad's criteria for wearing shorts is if it is above freezing.  I really don't understand.  It is kind of comical when he walks past someone in full winter gear and he is wearing shorts, a sweatshirt, and a baseball hat.

Speaking of presenting yourself, although I disagree about his opinion about what temperature to wear shorts, there is one thing I've learned from that I do agree with. Whenever you go and buy something from a commissioned salesman (car, furniture, etc.), wear your bum clothes.  A dirty sweatshirt and sweatpants are quite effective at keeping those pesky salesmen away.  When they do finally come at you, they already are starting at the low end because they think you don't have any money.  From my experience, they sometimes can really push the financing but I just pay with a credit card (or check if it is a new car).

This strategy obviously doesn't work with buying real estate as the buying agent is sort of on your team.

I feel like Super Bowl Sunday is just a way for people to act like they care who wins the game.

It seems to me like a lot of people fake interest in the game itself.  I never give a rip about the super bowl unless my team is playing.  (2 times has this happened in my life, both times, my team won!)

There have been some super bowls I don't even bother tuning into.  I simply don't care.

The halftime shows have become nonsense that only the young crowd can enjoy.  I mean, there have been artists that are so big they can play the super bowl halftime show, yet I have never even heard of them.

The entire build up is so commercially driven that it turns me off.

The best thing about the super bowl is that it brings us that much closer to baseball season.

I know what it is.  I don't get why they're using it.  I'm not in a theater watching a movie.  It's sports.  It doesn't add anything to the experience.

The first time I saw something similar is when you could use Photoshop to "miniaturize" pictures.  The goal was to make it look like a model or something like that.  When I saw it on TV for the first time, I thought it was an attempt to bring 3d-ish watching to sports.  For me, it wasn't that big of a deal.  Within 10-20 years, we will be watching holograms instead of flat screen TVs anyway.

I don't play Madden that much anymore.  Perhaps it is to be similar to that or to the FIFA video game series?

I wear shorts year round.  I have even used the snow thrower in shorts.  I hate the feeling of pants on my legs.  I have a fat butt, thick quads, and my calf muscles are big.  Pants feel tight and make me anxious - so I rarely wear them.  I am also married with 2 kids, so I couldn't really care less about what others think about me and how it is presented.

Perhaps a more apt question would be: Why don't more people worry about themselves? And, I do not mean that at you personally, but I do often think about that.  Too many people care about what other people do when it really is of zero consequence.

We must be talking about to work or something, right?

If not, then no, I do not care about presenting myself and your opinion of how I look while grocery shopping. I will be comfortable and not hot...thank you very much.

If you're thinking about going to the Chicago auto show this weekend, don't bother.  Lame.  Yes, you can wait in a line 50+ deep to drive a Jeep or a Bronco over a small man-made hill.  But only the major auto companies are there.  A handful of exotics on loan from local dealerships (couple of Rolls Royce - one w/MSRP of $690K, Bentley, Lamborghini, but no Ferrari).  The two McLaren's were cool, but they don't really look any different than the Corvettes or the Acura NSX.  Only a couple of concept vehicles.

But the most prestigious brand there is probably BMW, and I think they just had a small track for their EVs and no dedicated area/"booth".  No Mercedes.  GM was there but I don't recall seeing any Cadillacs.  Have a few Corvette's including a hybrid version, and an Acura NSX.  One GMC Hummer EV.  But none of the startup brands are there - no Rivian, no Fisker, no Polestar, no Lucid.  No Tesla.  I really wanted to see the Fisker Ocean as that is my initial #1 if/when I need another vehicle (and leave Chicago).

Anyone use any of these meal kit services? Do they really eliminate "food waste"? I'm not sure what's so hard about eating your leftovers. From the bits you see in the commercial they look like they create a lot of real waste with everything wrapped in plastic. And I'm sure they are shipped in some sort of insulated container with cold packs that probably often end up in the garbage too.
