Depends on where you live.  If you live in a densely populated area in a building with a lot of people who have Prime or on the same block as a lot of people who have Prime, you get almost everything in 2-4 days anyway depending on which warehouse it's coming from because the trucks are always on your block.  I don't have Prime and I ordered a couple of things on Monday; they said delivery between Saturday and Wednesday of next week, but everything is coming tomorrow.  I can't think of a time when I ordered something from Amazon and it took more than 5 days to arrive.

I bought a physical Amazon gift card as a birthday present for my nephew and it came the next day.

The actual shipping speed is always the same it seems. I am guessing to operate the way Amazon does everything gets shipped the same way. The difference tends to be that to make it take more than two days they just don't fulfill/ship it for 1-2 days. Whereas prime that sucker has a tracking number and on a truck within hours.

I am having a hard time deciding this year on where I want to take my vacation.

I was going to go to Monaco this year and watch the race there but apparently two of my co-workers decided to have kids at the same time so that is out the window but at least my boss will be hearing a temp worker while they are both out otherwise it would just be me and her doing everything for like 3-months.  Next year I will definitely be going for sure.

I have severely limited times that I can go on vacation as I have regulatory reports I am responsible for that I have to submit in April, Sept, Oct and Nov so I can't be off in those months.  Right now it is looking like Vegas, Nashville, Miami or Mexico.  I just can't decide on where I want to go.  This is like a yearly thing for me I am kind of bored of Vegas I have done that way too many times now.  I just want to relax either at a bar, on the beach or at a resort I want to do nothing all day as my work gets way to hectic at times especially during regulatory submission times.

There's a website somewhere that you can put in the days you're looking to go +/- a few and it'll list the cheapest prices around the world. If you were looking to get further afield than Memphis and didn't mind a few connections, you should be able to get pretty far away for a similar price.

The Philippines has some of the nicest beaches in the world and would be quiet. A pub crawl of Australian Outback bars? Draining Scotland of its whiskey one sip at a time? Namibia is like one giant beach and some of the best photography in the world. Hike the John Muir Trail and enjoy quiet camping while also getting a year's worth of exercise at once?

Define a few connections. I don’t mind connections..,but 27 hours flights (including layovers is a bit much).

Well, as far as Nashville, the whole Broadway/2nd Ave isn't a place to relax.  It's a poop show, but interesting people watching.  You can watch trucks pulling hot tubs full of young women in "cheeky" bathing suits drive up and down that stretch.  The 12th Avenue South neighborhood is more relaxing - a number of nice bars/restaurants/shops with outdoor patios.  One of my best friends who is from WI has a couple of apartments on AirBnB/VRBO in that neighborhood right across the street from Sevier Park.

Mexico - sounds like Tulum or Puerto Escondido is your place.  One of my team members is from Oaxaca and owns property in PE.  It's still under the radar, like Tulum was 10-15 years ago, and cheap.  Nice hotels with a pool and a rooftop terrace are $40/night.  No big corporate hotels, that's why it's cheap, but it's a big international surfing destination.  You can fly into PE, connecting in Mexico City.

I have not heard good things about Miami lately - thug central.  Another place that's close to you that might fit what you're looking for is Pacific Beach/Ocean Beach in the San Diego area.

OK will probably cross Nashville off the list.  All I do in Vegas now is relax at the pool and drink for most of the day or I am in the casino relaxing.  Yeah I know boring but the goal is to relax not be on the run every minute of the day.

I will have to look at those places in Mexico.

I am not a big fan of San Diego but will have to check that out.

The three items that I ordered on Monday arrived on Friday on three different trucks - one early afternoon, one late afternoon, one mid-evening.

There are two Amazon trucks on the street in front of my place right now.

Drug/medication commercials.  Especially the ones that have to be prescribed.  UGH!

Do people really take note of these commercials and ask their doctor for certain brand names based on these commercials?

Seems like a giant waste of money for these companies if you ask me.  If I need a medication, I'm pretty much relying on my doctor to set me up, not asking for ones that I have seen advertised.

But if you just take their drug, you too can jump from a dock into some pristine water.  Or even better, swing from a rope by the shore and cannonball  into the lagoon. Frolick on the beach with your beautiful family.  Watch whales.  I love how they all show the same type of footage while quietly and quickly murmuring all the horrifying potential side effects.

What they do is get people to come into their doctor's office to talk about their condition.  Many people either don't talk to their doctor about their conditions or don't even come in to see a doctor at all.  People don't talk about conditions for several reasons including refusing to admit something is wrong, feeling embarrassed about it, or not knowing/believing that there are things that can treat their condition effectively.

You're seeing a lot of commercials for skin conditions (psoriasis, eczema) because for a long time there weren't any medications that did a good job of treating them - not very effective (60-75% skin clearance vs. 90%+ clearance now), or less than ideal treatment regimens (weekly injections where now there are medications that only need to be injected once every three months, or previously only an injectable medication where now there are oral tablet medications), or nothing to treat it at all (eczema).  Patients were told to only expect so much from their mediocre medication and after taking it for a while they tend to normalize the results/regimen and think they are doing "OK" because that's what they were told to expect.  Doctors tend to be the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" and often don't bring up new medications because they don't want to take the time to explain them or deal with the hassle of trying to get insurance authorization.

The skin condition commercials have that imagery because they show people showing off their skin outside where others can see them, something that they've been embarrassed to do (note that it's always warm and they are wearing bathing suits, tank tops, shorts, etc.).  The FDA requires that they mention any side effect that occurs more often than placebo, even if it is rare and not necessarily proven to be caused by that drug (could be sample size error, another medication they are taking, etc).  You'd be surprised how many people commit suicide because of embarrassing medical conditions, or just withdraw from socializing.  In case you don't remember junior high school and high school, kids can be cruel to other kids who are different.  Having a little bit of diarrhea pales in comparison to the effects on their mental health.

(I used to work for a company that makes some of these dermatology medications you see on TV.  I did the concept testing with patients for one of those commercials.)

Frankly, I'd expect it to work just like that... I mean, the advertising agencies aren't dummies.  They know what works.

Not a drug example... but back when I bought my first computer (a sweet 25MHz x486 with 250MB HD and 2MB RAM), my dad wanted to give me whatever advice he could in making this $1000 purchase.  My dad is very blue collar and loathed technology.  So mustering all his knowledge of electronics, he asked me, "Did you get Intel inside?"

When someone is struggling with something and it is in an area they aren't comfortable with (i.e. medicines), yes they will default to TV ads.

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

I would say yes, I bet people often do.

People go to the internet and ask Facebook/Reddit experiences. People vouch or hate on whatever they have taken. Certainly people ask friends/family.

No doubt someone can bring up a medication after seeing it on a commercial. Many tell the doctor what they think they want/need. Heck lots of medication is entirely sold online after gaining a prescription for it…some antidepressants or medication for HIV/AIDS.

Probably yes for people with chronic conditions.  As a diabetic, when my first medication began to loose its effectiveness I had conversations with my Dr about what might be next. Over a year or so of appointments he mentioned the options and I then chose my next med based on my research which was influenced by TV commercials, insurance coverage and out of pocket cost..

That being said, I do dislike those commercials.

I asked my anesthesiologist cousin, and yes I had to look up the spelling on that, for his expert opinion on this. He said that it's important especially for elective things like viagra/cialis. He said when patients know there is a new option for treating a condition they have, whether it be ED or psoriasis or something, they may be prompted to go see a doctor versus just dealing with it. He said patients will often ask for the brand name (where of course big pharma makes the big bucks) verses generic or alternative treatment options. And many doctors will accommodate those requests if there are no contraindications.

Emergency dental work.  Cracked a tooth on what was likely a small piece of bone in a meatball Friday evening.  Wasn't sure, waited a while to see if it was just the nerve needing to calm down, but it got worse.  Dentist confirmed this morning.  Off to the endodontist for a root canal.

What's bugging me is their staff.  I'm coming in for an emergency root canal, and the staff asks me, "How's your day going?"

If I'm coming in for an emergency root canal, how the hell do you think my day is going??

I was just reading this morning about a person that worked at like an insurance call center and a guy had called due to finding out he had a terminal illness and was trying to work out insurance stuff. At the end of the call she said, "Get well soon."

I am sure that is an understandable way to end the call in 99.9% of calls....but that one, was not it. ooof

Hello and goodbye greetings get to be so automatic. A friend told me he was on the phone with his boss once and as he hung up said "k, love you" out of habit. The boss called him back laughing and said he's done the same thing before, too.

Yes! I have caught myself saying "you too" in situations that do not warrant them.

When I was in my 20's, I noticed that when someone made an order at a bar the bartender would usually open with "Hi, how's it going?" and the person would say something like  "Good, I'll have a...". I made a habit of saying "I'm good. How are you?" and then I'd wait for their reply. It almost always throws them off but usually in a good way.

No reason to be down in the mouth about the situation... 😂 Sorry, I'll show myself out (and yes, I've had 2 root canals...one of the emergency vareity)

Years ago I worked at a place where people were constantly leaving each other notes at their desks. I would sabotage some of them by writing "love" above the name at the bottom, so instead of it simply saying "Stan" it would say "love, Stan".

Anything to make the day go by faster.

When I worked retail the standard greeting was "Hi can I help you" and the standard response was "No, just browsing." But of course the key is to get them chatting so you can help them and in turn, get the commission. So I started greeting people with "What's the good word?" The weird question would throw people off and I got more people to talk that way. Although a lady once chewed me out for it, got really mad at me for asking. My guess is because she couldn't think of an answer she lashed out instead of having to appear confused. Boss told me to stop doing that, but I didn't because it was effective even if one lady got mad.
