I’m not advocating it but we are at the point packers could trace 42 and. 45 to move back in the first and get their wr.

OR their TE of choice. It would make a ton of sense. I also don't think it would take both 2's. Would it?

yes with the top wr’s off the board if they love one of the wr’s I could see it. I think one of the top 3 will be sitting at 42 though so it’s not necessary

Yes! Ness was actually my preferred pick, but seemed like he was dropping on polls so I was expecting him in the 20-25 range, but still a very Packer pick.  Lots of upside.

Yeah, lots to like about him. Very athletic. Still learning - so he can get better. Can line up inside and outside. Should be able to handle the pass rush and help with run defense.

Eventually on run D.  His weakest point was his strength... (at last on his combine numbers). I'm hoping he had a bad day.  In the 8th percentile for single gap DEs (including Bosa and P-Smith): https://www.mockdraftable.com/player/lukas-van-ness

The strength will come indeed. People need to remember when he arrived at Iowa he was only 220 lbs. The weight on the frame came first and he's still very explosive. The refinements will come. This is a massive ball of clay who was Brugler's 10th overall rated player. He's young with tons of upside. He can Edge (obviously) but he can also play over the C/G like a Zadarius Smith.

Yeah, that was one reason I like him is to fill that Z-Smith role.  I loved how Z would shift around and seemingly find a weakness.  Flexiblity and rotation is a good thing. Engebare is another option like that too (though less athletic).

A true DE-sized player (5/6 tech, not an OLB) such as Van Ness (or Keion White, etc.) is where I was expecting the Packers to go at some point.  I seem to recall reading/hearing something that Joe Barry prefers a 4-DL alignment, not the 3-4/2-4 that the Packers DL was built for.  DE's big enough to hold up against the run and quick enough to rush the passer.  He wants to rush four so that he can drop seven into coverage.

Hopefully Van Ness still has a little growth left and can add more muscle/strength.  Hopefully having true DEs on the roster helps Barry's defense execute better.

He is also only 21 years old.

Would really like us to take WR and TE in 2nd today... Hopefully Hyatt and Washington or Musgrave.

Washington / Mayer & Mingo would make the offense look a lot better.

Not overwhelmed by the LVN selection (the bench reps at the Combine are at least a question mark), but pass rush is a need with Gary coming off his injury.

After seeing his tape, the bench # really surprised me. He looks strong like bull. Must be core/lower body strength I guess. Bodies are weird.

Yeah, it's a bit odd right? Strength comes in so many different forms. Knowing he was a bull rusher, as well, it was odd. Must be that lower body power, explosion, and those 34" long arms?

For comparisons sake only. You can see, if he managed a few more bench reps, we're looking at a near super freak except for the vertical explosion. Bigger than clay - taller; heavier; bigger hands; longer arms but also has a better 40, 10 and 20 yard split. Whereas Clay had slightly better agility and hence measured more as a strictly stand-up guy. Anyway, it's quite apparent why the Packers wanted this young ball of clay:

Great finds. He destroyed both Skoronski and Johnson.

Huge factor is the weight gain building up and into his position. He's not finished and will be a big problem for defenses.

Just quick TE tapes, there is 4 available with 2nd rd potential when you add Sam LaPorta. Mayer doesn't look fluid the way he runs. Didnt pop out to me.  Musgrave looks much quicker but a little small so rec would be amazing but blocking iffy. Washington absolutely moves like Lewis only 2 steps quicker and maybe smidge meaner. LaPorta was like a mix of both Musgrave and Washington.

Bears and Lions have 5 picks in the 2nd but only 1 before GB's 2 picks. (Bears have #1 in 3rd)  I'd expect 1 or both to try jumping ahead of us.

T Cody Mausch reads and looks like what the Packers want for an OL. I could see GB trading down 45 if Branch and other ideal targets were gone, with 1 TE selected at 42.

Mauch is really  good. Versatile too. Classic Packers OL and he did meet with the Packers staff. I would be thrilled, honestly. He's a classic 10-year OL guy.

More TE video watching. I'm feeling Mayer will be a bust. A guy who suffers an injury and loses what he barely has going for him.

Washington has Finley vibes on the field only meaner and bigger blocking. He's a steal. Musgrave really gives me the Jordy Nelson vibes if Nelson were a TE size and build. Biggest rec threat ability.  As I mentioned LaPorta is just the mix of Washington/Musgrave. Fall back option if the two are gone when we pick but 40s is high. Mod 50s fits right to even 60s. I'd rather take Mausch before him.
