This game feels like the Miley/Scherzer game of the Mets series. Don't expect us to win, but if we do then I feel great about the sweep coming tomorrow.

Why? Lauer is a better pitcher than Montgomery, both historically and eye-test wise.

Cardinals have historically teed off on Lauer, 6.46 ERA and .927 OPS over 30 innings.

Montgomery is one of those “crafty” lefties that has given the Brewers fits the last few years.

Only 15 IP, but he has allowed a much more reasonable 3.52 ERA and .752 OPS facing the Brewers.

First of all that's not even remotely true.

Montgomery's  career numbers - 571 IP, 92 ERA-, 89 FIP-, 93 xFIP-. Lauer's career numbers - 555 IP, 100 ERA-, 105 FIP-, 106 xFIP-

Montgomery's last 2 seasons - 335 IP, 90 ERA-, 89 FIP-, 89 xFIP-. Lauer's last 2 seasons - 277 IP, 85 ERA-, 105 FIP-, 101 xFIP-

Montgomery has been much better over his career and his significantly better peripheral numbers in 60 more innings the last two seasons.

Second of all. The Cardinals absolutely rake LHP. They had a 131 wRC+ vs LHP last season and a career .353 wOBA against Lauer.

Is anything Montgomery or other crafty lefties have done to the brewers really applicable to this squad? Yelich might be the only guy starting today that was also starting for us 2 years ago...

Fair warning: Be prepared to see a “loser manager” lineup tonight against the lefty…

I actually hope we start Mitchell today as our second LHH. Anderson isn't horrible in RF, but he's a steep drop off compared to Wiemer. Would be much more comfortable with Wiemer in RF and Mitchell in CF today.

Would trot out a lineup like this.

C - Contreras

1B - Voit

2B - Miller

3B - Anderson

SS - Adames

LF - Yelich

CF - Mitchell

RF - Wiemer

DH - Brosseau

In 2021 the Brewers posted a 26th ranked 91 wRC+ vs LHP.

For 2022 they brought in historical lefty mashers Renfroe, McCutchen and Brosseau to beef things up. That boosted them to a 22nd ranked 92 wRC+ vs LHP.

This year they turned things over quite a bit more. Will it yield better, worse or about the same results? I don’t know.

Whichever way things end up shaking out, fans will likely still expect the Brewers to struggle against LHP whenever one comes up in the rotation.

Looks like a good game to take off and avoid keeping up to date on today. After shutting out yesterday and now facing a pitcher you've feasted on, this feels like one that's going to be ugly. Bullpen to be abused. Which position player would pitch on this roster?

When does 161-1 become a real possibility? It’s something that is certainly in play. Nothing gives me more pleasure than beating St. Louis too.

And that is only because of his abysmal contract … otherwise Frelick would be in LF

What were the odds going into last nights game?

but it's not like every guy suddenly forgot every piece of advice he gave

Lodolo shut out the Phils for 7 innings today and struck out 12. Reds are going to be a thorn in our side starting very soon with some of the positional prospects they have making their way through their system, to pair with Greene and Lodolo.
