I won't be sad when this west coast swing is over. Both the Cubs and Brewers have been on a west coast swing at the same time, which is making viewing difficult for me personally (not a fan of the Cubs but now that we run a Cubs site, I try to stay abreast of what they're doing). But I was able to watch about half of last night's game and the Brewers looked real good.

Two questions:

1. What happened to Burnes last night?
2. Joey Wiemer isn't much longer for this roster at this rate, which is too bad because damn he's fun to watch

Also, it's painful to see the Brewers dipping so deeply into their rotation depth and we're not even particularly close to May.

Because the defense has been so good from Weimer, I'm guessing he's still got until Taylor gets healthy. It's not hard to imagine him having a 4-4 day with 2HRs and a double to significantly improve his line.

on the broadcast last night they stated Wiemer leads MLB in DRS which is pretty incredible. I do think he'll get sent down whenever Taylor comes back but even without hitting he's providing value

Gilbert is in the 89th percentile for chase rate, one of the reasons he's been so successful this year despite only 48% of pitches being in zone, the Brewers will need to be patient

Pitch mix of

Four seamer (47%) - Primarily elevated and well located

Slider (25%) - primarily located just at the bottom of the zone, interestingly on the inner half to right handers

Curveball (17%) - Almost always down out of the zone

Split Finger (11%) - Has a tendency to hang this pitch so far this season

Has gone well so far, but can the Brewers work the count and take advantage?

Burnes is hurt now too?  Good, I didn't want nice things anyway.

Remember what Yoda said:

"Cubs lead to Cardinals. Cardinals lead to dislike. Dislike leads to hate. Hate leads to constipation."

Even if the Brewers dont win tonight or tomorrow, they have still secured a .500 west coast trip against 3 contenders. I would consider that a big success. We all knew going into April that the first month of the season this team just needed to tread water. Considering the rotation issues, so far so good.

I've seen him pitch a couple times and his stuff is really good. One thing I found interesting, he has significant reverse career splits. RH batters hit him much better, with that pitch mix I would think he'd struggle more with lefties. I'm sure CC has absolutely no idea, or simply doesn't care, and we'll see every LH we have in the lineup today.

Is there any universe in which the team with the bullpen with the a bottom 5 k rate doesn't have ERA regression? What's weird is, there are 4 teams near the bottom in this category and there's a significant gap between us and the 5th worst team. Those 4 teams are us, rays, athletics, nationals. 2 teams at the very top of the standings, and 2 at the very bottom

Perhaps good defense is helping on that front. Wiemer, Mitchell, Turang, all were very good defensively. Yelich a 2022 Gold Glove finalist in left... Adames very good defensively...

And has been mentioned - some really high level framing by Contreras can help this too!

Dbacks doing good work. Moreno with a three run homer. It followed a two-run bases loaded double by Ahmed. The pitch bounced at about 59 feet, and he golfed it down the left-field line. 7-2!

LOL Cardinals starting pitching

The cricket shot by Ahmed was the best.  I'm sure he gets drilled for daring to swing at that pitch.

Hot take. I think the cardinals suck this year because they don’t have the juiced balls they did last year with pujols.
