Brewers-Rays Saturday Afternoon -- Lauer of the Brewers vs. Eflin of the Rays

Counsell did a horrible job waiting this long.

He ALWAYS waits too long before pulling a pitcher who is stinking out the diamond.  Drives me crazy.

Brewers have big problems…….built on pitching and defense……so not scoring much……and now multiple injuries to the rotation….and a guy they counted on can’t keep the ball in the park.

The best thing that could happen for the future of this franchise is to reload by trading Burnes and hopefully Adames for great minor leaguers from real contenders.

I’ve kept quiet, but the allure of Adames escapes me. Putting him in the “Big 3” makes me shake my head. Just trade him for what you can, but I cannot imagine locking him down for big money and a lot of years.

He's lost so much confidence in his delivery, and those middle middle pitches he generated whiffs on previously are getting smashed. That was a horrible hanger, and it seems the rays aren't for stopping.

The may want eflin to go deepish for a bullpen game tomorrow (unless they bring back Glasgow on a low pitch count)

Glasnow is pitching 1 more rehab start tomorrow.

Yeah Lauer needs optioned to try and fix his mechanics. He is a mess right now, physically (mechanics) as well as mentally (confidence).

Yeah I did a comparison of Adames and the top FA to hit the FA market and he compares really poorly to that group.

Baez - 4.0 fWAR/600 PA with 6.1 fWAR peak
Story - 4.1 fWAR/600 PA with 6.3 fWAR peak
Turner - 5.1 fWAR/600 PA with 6.8 fWAR peak
Correa - 5.0 fWAR/600 PA with 6.2 fWAR peak
Bogaerts - 3.8 fWAR/600 PA with 6.1 fWAR peak
Swanson - 2.9 fWAR/600 PA with 6.4 fWAR peak
Seager - 4.8 fWAR/600 PA with 5.4 fWAR peak
Lindor - 5.3 fWAR/600 PA with a 7.8 fWAR peak

So he has the lowest peak by a considerable amount and the second lowest career fWAR/600 PA. Swanson the only guy with a lower fWAR/600 PA was coming of a 6.4 fWAR season and had been a 4,5 fWAR/600 PA guy since 2020.

If Adames wants $20M+ a year to stay in Milwaukee, I would pass. He's already declining in sprint speed and has a batted ball profile that doesn't seem like it will age well.

I think Brewers fans just remember 2021 Adames and think he will return to that level, but there's been nothing in his career to indicate that level in 2021 post trade is sustainable long term.

Does Lauer have options left?

Yeah. He has 1 option and he still hasn't hit 5 years of service time.

And this is why Jake Cousins isn't an MLB pitcher at the moment. Absolutely zero command. That flies in AAA when his stuff overwhelms hitters and he gets some hilarious chases but he cannot consistently get chases like that in the MLB

Might be time to send him down and try to get right.

Yup, bring on the sell off this July: Burnes, Woodruff, Anderson, Tellez and Adames. Reload for the future.

This team that is last in the NL in doubles, triples, 2nd to last in hits, and 12th in OBP but 6th in homeruns is going nowhere. Break it up now while the return is the greatest

It wouldn't break my heart to see Counsell go either.  If we are going for a fresh start go all the way.

He’s already decided to leave after this year. Hence the new stories of him entering the season with a  expiring contract and no extension talks

I think he walks away on his own at the end of the season. He just looks worn out and can't be enjoying watching this team play everyday.

I didn't know about that.

Totally reminds me of the stories that Stearns contract was up soon and they had no extension talks. Wouldn't shock me if all three of Mr Met, Counsell, and Arnold are working for the criminal Cohen in Queens next season.

I mean Jesse Winker has his bags backed for a DFA, right? 3 XBH, can’t run, can’t play defense. They’d  be better off rotating Tellez, Ruf, Yelich, Anderson, Miller  etc through the DH slot than giving away automatic outs with Winker

If the alternatives were any good he would be gone already.

I really expected more from Winker and was hoping we would be getting the Cincy version who always crushed Brewers pitching.

Unfortunately he can't face Brewers pitching as a member of the Brewers.

These guys aren’t dumb, with getting bounced in ‘21 and collapsing down the stretch in ‘22 they saw the writing on the wall.
It’s likliest reason why Stearns already resigned and Counsell is on an expiring contract
