DFA Sousa seems a no brainer, a few players will be looking at 40 man spots and worrying

I suppose that might be rationale to wait until the trade deadline... but we have games against playoff competitors between now and then.

It's a tightrope last thing you want is an injury causing the need for someone like Mejia, but I guess he's not exactly all that irreplaceable. It is for a spot at the front end of the bullpen too, so not huge leverage but it is something that let the Brewers down in the first half of the season

I like him too... but he doesn't have options, and we're gonna need to take someone off the 40 man. I suppose an upcoming trade could help that and save him.

I suppose you could option Uribe and DFA Sousa or something like that. But Uribe seems legit too.

I didn’t even realize Mejia was out of options. Yeah he’s definitely a DFA candidate for that reason alone.

I'm not sure what will happen, but SOMETHING will happen. I just can't imagine a scenario where Oinker is on this team after the deadline. With this said, I can't help but feel (baseball is decidedly superstitious) that whenever he's gone, this team is going to go on a run.

There is so much addition by subtraction with these upcoming decisions. Toss the Jonahs overboard, get healthy, and add some positive vibes, and they could go on a run.

Which hitter, regardless of current statistical output, would bring a big, positive presence to the heart of the order/clubhouse? This team is lacking an identity.

I really think that would be Justin Turner but don't think the Red Sox get rid of him anymore. Would help at 1B, DH and leadership. In an alternate universe Turner has already been a Brewer a few years.

I don’t think their identity this year is that far off from other Brewers teams during the competitive Stearns era…

Starting Pitchers
2017-22: 75.4 rWAR (5th)
2023: 7.6 rWAR (12th)

Bullpen
2017-22: +24.12 WPA (6th)
2023: +6.68 WPA (1st)

Defense
2017-22: +189 DRS (4th)
2023: +31 DRS (3rd)

Position Players
2017-22: 101 wRC+ (14th)
2023: 88 wRC+ (25th)

Defense right where it normally is, bullpen even more dominant than usual, SP down a bit but still viable even with Woodruff, Peralta and Lauer all hurt or underperforming.

Obviously the offense has stunk it up, but the good news is it hasn’t cost us 1st place yet. Context free batting runs has it costing them about five wins (-53.9), while WPA thinks it’s more like a couple two tree (-2.69).

Oh, certainly they are built to win with pitching and defense. But in terms of the lineup and, dare I suspect, clubhouse chemistry, I feel like there is too much pressure on Adames and Yelich to be the dudes. If those two switched personalities, then I think the team would be in good shape, but no one on this team is saying, "jump on, I'm driving this bus". Burnes has got that taken care of for the pitching staff, but even some washed up guy like Eric Hosmer, or Nelson Cruz could let the other hitters exhale a little bit.

To keep Winker on the roster - especially when you don’t have enough confidence to play him against a RH starter - is unforgivable. It’s embarrassing to try & defend such poor decisions.

This team could be 20 games over .500 with an average offense, yet we are struggling to hold off Cincinnati - a young team with an excellent offense & equally bad pitching.

Frelick reminds me of a young Molitor … I love his energy & bat to ball skills. He needs help sooner than later! I thought for sure there would be a roster move or two for the offense before the Cincy series. Maybe it happens tomorrow.

CONCERN: Counsell’s postgame comments & an MSJ article today suggest Winker is a good PH off the bench … I hope this experiment ends sooner than later.

Maybe he just means that fewer ABs are better. 😅

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

Yes - but he takes a valuable roster spot that could be filled with a better bat
