It's a day game and the last regular-season game against the Cincinnati Reds.

Freddy Peralta is still something of a mystery. Every time you think he's putting something together, he lays an egg. Which Peralta will we get today? Who knows? Watch and find out!

I miss the good old days when the Reds had starting pitching that mostly stunk. Granted, they’re not world beaters by any stretch but there’s been improvement for sure.

This will literally come down to whether or not Freddy can locate his secondary pitches in the zone or on the edges. If not, we'll see long AB's of hoping they whiff a fastball and laying off a ton of uncompetitive pitches.

If he can locate, he'll get a ton of called strikes on a team just sitting on the fastball, and a ton more chase on both his four seamer and curve/slider as a result. Which version can we get today? Let's see!

More to the point, Brewers have been threatening with men on for a while now, even a ton during the Braves series without registering big innings or a big RISP day. Today's the day!

If you can force Lively into the zone, he's in trouble just gotta lay off that slider. His fastball and changeup have been hit hard this season

His sinker to righties has been very effective actually, so hoping a left handed line up today, and gonna go out on a limb and pick Brice Turang to roll in a couple of RBI's today... I can see a little something coming from him

A couple of home runs today would go a long way too

They are probably the favorites in the division despite losing all the games to us.     If they win today they will be in first.     Their hitting is just better than ours and so far it isn’t been optimistic that we are going to upgrade

we might want to win today

So, ~$8M benched DH who can't hit goes on the IL with a balky back, let's call up a utility IF and start him at 1B, then give Yeli a breather in left to DH him and start Taylor and his buck fifty batting average out there in his place to go 0-4.  All the while shoving our recent young callup still getting his feet wet back into the cleanup spot hitting behind our SS who can't get on base.

So, the Brewers are probably in for scoring 8 runs today...

They also have a lot of lucky hitters drastically outperforming their xWOBA, whereas the Brewers last time i checked hadn't got a single player outperforming theirs (who met the sample size criteria)

The Brewers are still solid favorites to win the NLC in the major projection systems, despite their offensive struggles...

Here are the current xwOBA overperformers (minimum 100 PA) on the Brewers

Miller - 307 PA, .297 wOBA vs .287 xwOBA

Perkins - 128 PA, .286 wOBA vs .268 xwOBA

Monasterio - 107 PA, .339 wOBA vs .320 xwOBA

He's been playing there and has been tearing it up in Nashville of late, what exactly is your complaint?

A career 76 OPS+ utility infielder doesn't scream first base to me.

We don't have good options, but if you're not following Nashville you're probably missing some context as well for why he's a less bad option than other bad options right now.

I get the move solely because Toro is on the 40 man and yes, he's been hitting well in AAA in recent weeks - unfortunately that still doesn't make him a 1B.  In fact, the entire Brewers' 26 man active roster doesn't currently have a player on it whose primary position is 1B - I guess, that it is, until they put on the Brewers jersey....once that happens they're all 1B!

The longterm impact of not carrying everyday 1B and DH players (not 1, two roster spots) on this roster whose primary contribution is offensive production/power leads to continued weak offensive lineups.  Instead, these roles have been filled in by utility players who have a MLB career at all because they don't embarrass themselves in the field at multiple defensive positions.  It's frustrating as hell when everyone can see they need several more bats on the roster.

If he comes to the plate with his head up his *** like he often does it won't make a difference either way, but putting Adames in front of someone who's swinging the bat well is actually a good idea. But I'd try using Yelich as that guy.

2. Adames

3. Yelich

4. Contreras

They definitely won't be favorites either way.

I think people are really overstressing on Adames.  He hasn't been good overall, but for July he has a wRC+ of 114.  Now sure move him down as soon as you locate a better hitter in the lineup but yeah...

"Dustin Pedroia doesn't have the strength or bat speed to hit major-league pitching consistently, and he has no power......He probably has a future as a backup infielder if he can stop rolling over to third base and shortstop." Keith Law, 2006
