The Sounds are getting RHP Taj Bradley coming off a MLB month in which he gave up 19 ER and 5 HR in 21 2/3 IP. Let's hope his confidence is shaken and LHP Robert Gasser gives us one of his late June outings. Sounds trail 2-1 in the Home series. Let's pull even.

BUMP ^^ 🥰

Another Dorrian bomb (106.3 MPH 420 feet to CF) has it 5-0 Sounds.

Only thing on Gasser’s line through 3 IP is 4 K.

Picking up guys like Patrick Dorrian (trade mid-2022) and Isaac Collins (Rule 5 minor league selection) for peanuts look like rather shrewd moves.

The Orioles gave up on Dorrian after a slow start in his first extended taste of AAA ball. The Rockies left Collins unprotected despite 30 stolen bases in AA in his 4th MILB season.

Carolina is knotted at 3-3 in the 7th and, wait now, Avina reaches on a throwing error. Areinamo capitalizes and drives him in with a double! 4-3 Mudcats! Let's take this, men!

You know I love both these young men. Dorrian, in particular, is so underrated. Yet he is so dang solid anywhere you slot him. Collins season for Biloxi obviously speaks for itself.

They didn’t stop there.

Jadher stole third, then scored on a Reidy Mercado fielders choice to 1B.

Reidy stole second and third, then scored on a Gregory Barrios fielders choice to 3B.

Guessing both guys beat throws home?

Either way, now 6-3 Mudcats middle seven.

O’Rae 2B
Pratt SS
Bitonti 3B
Boeve DH
Norman C
Barrios 1B
Walling RF
Briceno LF
Medina CF

is the lineup with Daniel Corniel on the mound for the AZ Brewers tonight,

Lineup card also states 1B. And we have the red hot Collins in LF and Valerio at 2B.

In other words: Black at 1B continues

I love the idea Black getting a bunch of starts at 1st. With no apparent 1B for the future he would be a great option next year. He should have great range and hands. At 6'1" he would be a good target as well. Still waiting for AAA to call.

Sequence of Areinamo double, Nicasia walk, Mercado fielders choice, wild pitch, Barrios ground out, nets the Mudcats two more runs top of nine.

Chase Costello has thrown three perfect with three K in relief of Will Rudy and is on the mound to close things out.

Biloxi finally on the board via Ethan Murray solo shot, but otherwise the offense has been mostly quiet outside of doubles from Lamar Sparks and Isaac Collins.

Shuckers down 8-1 bottom of seven.

Pratt/Bitoni is going to be a fun duo to follow..

Pratt walk, Bitonti bomb, Boeve single, Norman walk first time around.

This inning has been Walling K/ROE, Briceno single, Medina single, O’Rae HBP, Pratt single, Bitonti triple.

Looks like Mariners are making a pitching change.

7-4 Brewers bottom two, no outs, Bitonti on third, Boeve at bat.

Bitonti with a triple and a HR in his first 2 AB’s. Pratt a hit. Boeve a hit.only the second inning so plenty of AB’s left to go.

Gasser’s final line ends up at 6 IP | 0 ER | 2 H | 3 BB | 10 K.

Eric Lauer on the mound top seven with Sounds still up 5-0.

From here it went Boeve double, Barrios single, Walling fielders choice, Briceno double, Medina, bomb, O’Rae single.

Final tally: eleven runs in the bottom of two.

Interesting how they are using Lauer on this rehab assignment. His velo today was consistently at 93/94 up to 95 based on the gameday logs. Pretty encouraging, wonder if they want to try and deploy him like they did Pomeranz in short bursts, let him maintain high velos down the stretch? I’m not sure there is necessarily a spot for him besides maybe Meijia right now, especially after acquiring Chafin, but I’m kind of intrigued by the idea of using Lauer in this way.

With a league average ACL ERA of 5.95, 20-year old RHP Gerson Calzadilla’s season-to-date becomes even more impressive:

If Bryse Wilson continues to be plagued by the HR ball, might be worth giving Lauer a chance in a mop up/innings eater role in the pen.

That’s a fair point

Nice to see Boeve hitting...but you hope a guy who hit .400 in College would hit well.

Pratt and Bitonti are just looking great so far. It's a tiny sample size, but a 17 and 18 year old SS hitting the ground running like that?

I'll assume Knoth, Letson and the pitchers will finish this year out in Arizona getting their innings there, start at AZ. How rare would it be to push Knoth to Carolina to start '24?

Not terribly rare, although they haven’t had many highly drafted high school pitchers lately to test the theory on. I think Jarvis and Olsen were the last two to start their first full season in A ball, unless I am forgetting someone.

From 2010 onward, the only 18-year old Brewer prospects that I’ve noted as pitching in Low-A were Kodi Medeiros (2015) and Brailin Rodriguez (2021). So it can happen, but it’s rare.
