And yet, get us in a three game playoff series with Burnes and Big Woo, and we have a real good shot to keep the buggy moving.

Sure, but that isn't what you said.

Well it was last night. Now it can't

Yeah, they used Payamps last night in a one run game in the ninth trying to stay in a one run game. He hadn’t pitched in a couple of days.

If you use him today in a 2 run game (that much less likely for a comeback) and you’re probably making him unavailable for tomorrow night if they happen to have a lead.

Even if you use Payamps and he pitches a scoreless inning you still have to cover the ninth.

If you bring in your top relievers every time you’re within a couple of runs you aren’t going to have a bullpen late in the season.

The Hiura situation has been discussed to death but I would like some kind of on record explanation because if this was any other business questions would be asked about what is going on here.

You must be one of those expert internet argument guys.

Let's spend 20 posts arguing about the definition of a word.

Not with this offense.

At some point you still have to be able to score some runs against better pitching. And pretty much every lineup in the major leagues has a better chance of scoring off top end pitching than we do.

And I don't think that is true at all with this offense.  Burnes and Woody just pitched and we'll be lucky to eek out an extra inning win.  That is wishful thinking.

I think we'd have a shot.

It really says something that we trade for a guy with an average around .220 and he immediately slots in the third spot in the lineup.

Its all about the run prevention and Hiura at DH won't help the defense.

You aren't going to be facing the Pirates.  You are going to be facing good teams with good offenses and pitching equal to ours.

For some reason, people feel better when they get real negative about their team. Not sure why that's the case.

Unless this organization changes their approach in the off season and FINALLY decides to sign legit hitters in the off season, this is how it's always going to be. So expect more of the same.

As this era of Brewers baseball comes to a close there needs to be a study done on the use of resources and the swindled assets of pitching and no hitting. I believe it was an organization failure of epic levels.

I mean, I get this sentiment, but the Brewers have been a top-10 team by wins since 2010 (we’re ranked 9th, in fact, a bit better than Houston).  By any measure besides pennants (of which we have one, all-time), this is the most successful era in team history.  It is not like the organizational approach has been self-evidently incorrect—it has been, in fact, wildly successful.  The only small-market teams that have been at or above our level are the Guardians and Rays.

So if someone wants to say we need to do an organizational self-scout and hold those two franchises up against what we’re doing as we look for marginal improvements, then ok, I’m with you.  But if we think our problem is that we don’t build our teams like the Dodgers, Yankees, Braves, and Red Sox (and, to be clear, I’m not saying you’re doing this, @Bulldogboy), then we need to stay clear-eyed about what is truly possible.  We can’t be bullet-proof everywhere, so the question is, where do we seek compromises?  I’ve seen slugging teams that couldn’t buy competent pitching, and recently, we’ve had outstanding run-prevention and anemic offenses.  It sucks, but that’s the nature of the beast for us.

Some people feel better when they eat cotton candy. I'm just telling you that you are off base on this.

See now this is stupid, Monasterio has NO power and you're down 3 runs, at the very least PH Anderson or almost anyone available has a better shot at tying it with one swing then he does

How many times have they broken up a shutout in the 9th because the other team was far enough ahead they tried to finish with a scrub.?

Or at least before the trade deadline.

Monasterio has a .362 OBP. When you're down, the goal (should) be to not make outs, which Monasterio does better than most of the guys on this roster. Anderson has 9 homers in almost 300 plate appearances, so it's not like we have anyone on the bench who's anything more than a moderate (at best) power threat.
