Taking names out of it I don’t think Alonso was worth a top 30 prospect and I think it would have been crazy to offer that. He’s not even a top 5 1B this year and yes 1.3 years is a rental. If he got traded it would have been for a prospect package, for example #75 overall and a couple top 300 guys.

I'd be curious to hear who your top 5 1B this year are if Alonso isn't one of them.

Hopefully the Mets put a more acceptable price tag on the polar bear this offseason, and he becomes a Brewer.

If we acquired him this offseason, would we be able to make a qualifying offer to get draft pick compensation after the season?

Yes, as long as the player starts the year on the team you can offer a QO and get draft pick compensation.

The most I would've been willing to go for Alonso is Quero/Frelick/Black and Rodriguez. Anything involving Chourio and Misiorowski and I would have balked.

Holy crap man, you were willing to give up up all those guys for Alonso alone?  I am 100% thankful you are not our gM/owner.

I would love Alonso, however for 1 year I wouldn't give up a top 100 prospect. Weimer/Mitchell straight up seems like an overpay that Mets fans would hate. My guess would be that with all that money the Mets are going to want mlb players. Burnes for Alonso and a prospect say Blade Tidwell would have some juice to me. What would Alonso's contract demands be? Similar to Matt Olsen 8/162, or a shorter higher Ave. 4/100.

Again, that's not what it meant. If I was willing to give up all of those guys, I would have used a comma or an "and" between them instead of a slash.

Rather, I meant one from the Quero/Frelick/Black group and Rodriguez.

We all know Stearns is going to NY. Should have offered Stearns and a couple mid level prospects for Alonso. Cohen gets his guy a few months early to start the rebuild. We don't give up any top 5 prospects. Win - win!

I believe Alonso was worth a Quero or a Black.

BUT, I think the difference between Alonso>Santana isn't as big as the difference between Black>Jhonny Severino, so I'm happy with how it worked out.

Freeman Oldson and Goldy are better, Bellinger Walker and Diaz are arguably having better seasons, I don't think you can argue Alonso higher than 4 and there is a reasonable argument to put him at 7, so calling him a fringe top 5 is probably appropriate.

I’d put Freeman, Olson, Diaz is the top 3 pretty easily. I think Alonso has a pretty solid argument for #4 as I don’t consider Bellinger a 1B as he’s only played like 230 innings at 1B this year and over 2 times that much in the OF.

This is one of those things where tiers are probably more useful than rankings.

Tier 1

Freeman and Olson

Tier 2

Goldy, Diaz, Walker, Alonso,

Alonso has had some historically bad luck on balls in play. Both BABIP and xWOBA minus WOBA bear this out.

I think Diaz could possibly be up with Freeman and Olson in all honesty.  He's overperforming his xwOBA but a 160 wRC+ is 2nd only to Freeman although his baserunning is truly abhorrent.

I think Goldy is being overvalued here.  He seems to be starting the downside of his career if you ask me.

Plus, I have him on a fantasy team, and he has been pretty disappointing.

Valid.

I think there's an element of how you weight past performance and whether someone can maintain something into the future. For me (the 6 or 8 stats that I tend to gravitate towards), all of Alonso, Diaz, Goldy, and Walker have some question going forward about which version shows up for 2024.

He might be falling off, but he's still in that group for now. Guys the reigning MVP.

Lowe is a guy who's quietly in that next to elite tier or...in the discussion with the 3rd group.

I think outside of top two more obvious, Yandy would be the guy who'd benefit the Brewers the most. A guy a lot of people were talking about trading for this past off-season and I remember there were some ideas that seemed like an overpay, but man, he'd fit this lineup so perfectly.

He definitely has been this year. And his average exit velo is 3rd in the league behind only Acuna Jr and Judge who has a ridiculous 97.5 average exit velo.

The Base running isn't good, but not like Tellez is Ricky Henderson out there.
