If I need to explain to you why one call by an umpire doesn't decide the outcome of a baseball game that literally has thousands of possible outcomes on every pitch, every play, every minute of the game, then I don't know what else I can say.

There is no leadoff runner if it gets called like it should have. Run doesn't score. You're just being contrarian. It clearly affected the outcome of the game.

That loss was a bit disappointing, though hardly crushing. Wished to have seen better from our #1/#2 starter, but Woodruff was apt to have a non-dominant start at some time before the season ended. Having a big comeback to tie is excellent, yet it feels unfulfilled when the game is ultimately lost. Seeing one of the top bullpen arms be a bit wild and give up a run with a wild pitch isn't great.

But with all that said, the Brewers are dormie for the division title. It's nicer to clinch that at the earliest opportunity, showing the killer instinct. Not getting it done today isn't terrible, but it would be best to wrap it up on Sunday and have the "happy flight" back to Milwaukee.

Getting Payamps right is a big priority over the next week. Rest and pick-your-spots. Uribe looks great, but he scares me in a postseason series. When his control is off (as it can be when the adrenaline is really going), it's tough. Hate to have an inning spiral. He's be my "I need one out to end an inning" guy.

Payamps needs a week of rest

He’s had a great season overall - but he’s not been good for a month or so

I assume he’s tired

Hopefully, a week off gets him back on track

Sadly, based on “what have you done for me lately” - I don’t trust him come playoff time

One call by an umpire has an effect on the game, but doesn't win or lose a game.

Already explained it to you, so we'll just agree to disagree.

Not really. And had been getting called all game.

The ump blew the call, but the ump was blowing calls all day. At least a few Marlins players were rung up on ball 4. It was a horrible ump performance. Who knows if the game is even 4-4 going into the bottom of the 8th if the ump had accurately called the game.

Loss didn’t affect the Brewer’s standing in the playoff hierarchy. In fact it may (may) play to their advantage by seeing the Marlins in the first round (and possibly eliminating the Cubs).

It was called wrong on Chisholm for example, no doubt. But that pitch had been consistently getting called in the lead-up to that at-bat. Case in point, Uribe's last K.

It was a strike that all of a sudden wasn't a strike in a crucial moment.

Both of Uribe’s pitches were entirely in the strike zone. Payamps just grazed the edge. Payamps pitch had been called a ball multiple times earlier in the game.  In the 5th inning Soler was rung up on a clear ball 4 with 0 outs. Bell had a single in the next AB. Would have likely been 1st and 3rd with 0 outs and the Marlins up 4-0.

I don't know if I would say it just grazed the edge. The first pitch in that at-bat grazed the edge (and was also called a ball). That last pitch was pretty blatant.

Soler being rung up on that pitch in the 5th only makes my point. That entire part of the zone was wide open all game, until it randomly wasn't in a crucial spot.

In the end it's a loss that means very little, but frustrating.

Would be interesting to see on average how many pitches would be changed with a perfectly operating Automated Zone per game.

Obviously Angel Hernandez games would probably have at least a dozen.
