End of season prospect voting open, please vote!

It's prospect voting time again! A rundown of the rules again:

1. You must have an account and be logged in to vote. If you don't have an account, click here. It literally requires 60 seconds to create an account.

2. Review our current top 20 prospect list, catch up on stats, rankings, etc. (you can do so from the voting page link below)

3. Have your prospect list in your dirty little paws? Then flip on over to the new prospect voting page (after reading the rest of this, please).

https://brewerfanatic.com/prospect-voting

4. Voting is super simple, you drag and drop players in the order you wish them to be. After you move a prospect, the list automatically renumbers so you don't lose track of the order. This works on mobile devices but it's a *vastly* better experience on desktop. Sorry, that's just how this kind of thing works. There's no great way to make something like this be as awesome on a phone screen.

5. Each prospect has a comment section where you can add any commentary you have on that player. At the bottom of the list, there is a general comment section to explain over-arching things you wish to mention.

6. Don't see a prospect you want to put on the list? Just pop back here and give me a mention (in a comment, start typing @Brock Beauchamp and then select my name when it appears). Mention the prospect you want added and I will do that asap.

7. Once you're done with all of it, click Save. You've now voted!

8. When the voting closes, a new thread will automatically generate in this forum with all of your rankings and comments for everyone to read and talk about.

9. You can only vote once. If you have voted in error, pop back here and again tag me, asking to have your vote deleted. I will remove it and you can vote again.

Voting will close at end of day Monday, October 7th!

@Brock Beauchamp

Abner Uribe should be ineligible, correct?

Edit: Could you please add Edgardo Ordonez, Satchell Norman and Wes Clarke?

I went back and forth on Uribe because we don't use strict service time rules. Had he been closer to 50 IP, I would have removed him, but he's not even at 30 IP yet.

The rest have been added!

If people want Uribe removed, I can do that, I'd just like to hear from a few more people before doing so.

The way I see it is yeah Uribe only has about 30 innings but a RP averages what 60-65 IP over the course of a season? By the end of the year he will probably end up at about half of a RP season's worth of IP. A normal position player might have 550 PA in a season. Frelick (210 PA) and Mitchell (130 PA) are further away from 50% of a position player's season than Uribe is from a RP's season so why are they not still considered prospects?

Yeah, okay, that's fair. I'll pull him from the list.

Stiven Cruz over Alexander Cornielle? That's interesting.

And, if we're going to put Quinton Low up there (as tantalizing as he has been in moments) we have to consider why Yerlin Rodriguez is ommitted - despite his struggles the last month he was fantastic for the great majority of 2023.

Felix Valerio over Isaac Collins? Age discrepancies aside, 2023 proved Collins was a player you couldn't leave out of the line-up whereas Valerio - other than maybe a week of play - was a player you struggled to find a reason to put in the line-up. Unfortunately, this was just very true in 2023.

Considering what we saw from RHP Tobias Myers in August and September - putting forth his best starting work of his season and dazzling in a brief bullpen role in Nashville - he should likely be added considering he may even be protected in the Rule 5 draft. His late work was that good.

Considering how utterly good Yorman Galindez was when promoted from the ACL for Carolina's playoff push, he should likely be added as an option for folks.

Lottttta thoughts from this ol' Brewers Minor League codger from his off-season front porch swing. And, of course, this is still me. Today. Many days removed from this sentiment. I am still coping with the losses of Garabitos and, now, Sibrian...my sweet catching Prince:

Tobias Myers is very intriguing, and I could deifnitely see giving him a 40-man spot. In his first AAA outing he threw 15 FB and had an IVB of 19.9 inches on those 15 FB. That's elite IVB. If he could touch 96-97 in a bullpen role there's potential for a good RP there with a FB with that IVB

Since I've got about 20 players I feel like have a legitimate claim on spot No. 20, I decided to go with a random, off the board, call-your-shot type pick.

I strongly considered Luiyin Alastre, but in the end, I'm going to request adding reliever Shane Smith.

Also, did Myers sign a two-year minor league deal? And if not, wouldn't he be a minor league free agent at year's end if he isn't added to the 40-man?

Kind of an interesting, random tidbit in Dan Szymborski’s FanGraphs chat today.

Someone asked which minor leaguers saw the biggest improvement in their ZiPS projection this year.

Tyler Black was one of the five hitters, ok, pretty obvious after the year he put up, but then among the five pitchers was none other than James Meeker.

That is really interesting. Especially considering how he generally struggled as a starting pitcher when called upon for the Shuckers. And, tho he only had a lone relief appearance, his Triple-A outing told a story he will likely need extended exposure or off-season tweaks to adjust to the higher level of competition - he was hit hard. I love me some Meeker, as you know, but I would personally be challenged to place him (in the Brewers prospect pantheon) above a TJ Shook, for example, who is a more versatile and toolsy guy who can fill a number of roles including set-up; long relief; starting roles. I would casually opine, his ZiPS was seen as such in 2023 because Fangraphs was slow to understand his overall game to begin with in 2022. He proved he can very effectively fill a 7th or 8th inning Southern League role (no small feat) yet I still personally saw more reason for hesitancy than I saw reason for getting more bullish than I already was. I take it to mean the ZiPS projections here were just behind. And I don't mean this in any defiant or loud way. I just mean it in a: He is absolutely going to need to find another level to his Mix and his stuff if he wants to prove himself at Triple-A for a shot at MLB. He can absolutely do it but I personally wouldn't rely one iota on this ZiPS projection. To that end, and to a similar tune as far as re-setting the table, RHP Edwin Jimenez showed me a bigger projectable step for meaningful future 4th-5th starter potential. Anywho, fascinating. Thanks for sharing.

Something else here that didn't really seem thread worthy, but Eric Longenhagen did some investigating on minor league listed heights, with a blurb on Tyler Black - who was subject to much height related speculation and discourse over the summer.

The whole thing is an interesting read, but here is the Black specific section...

"Tyler Black is listed at 6-foot-2 on his Wright State player page (the source of my initial Board input prior to him being drafted) and was 6-foot-1 in the Brewers media guide entering the season. Before I learned about MLB’s pilot program, his 2023 shrinkage to 5-foot-10 felt suspect to me, because Black was one of the players who seemed most apt and eager to use the ball/strike challenge system in the 2022 Arizona Fall League. Walks are a substantial part of his skill set. It was tough to find a satisfactory moment to screengrab Black upright and close to another player on the field, so I’ve included two above. He also stands next to Pedro Pagés and Andy Thomas, both listed at 6-foot-1, several times in my video from last year. I’m finding it quite tough to actually gauge how tall this guy is."
