In thinking about what today will look like for Burnes, might be good idea to look at his season finale from last year vs. ARI: 3 innings 0 runs 5 Ks 40 pitches. I could see him going one or even two innings more than that to get to 200 Ks. Last thing Corbin wants I imagine is the team (or another team) using that against him in his final year of arbitration.

I don't think Burnes goes very long today. If Small was still a starter would think he gets the bulk of the innings today but he hasn't been stretched all season. Maybe Rea with a few innings and optioned after the game for Lauer to work the weekend during Woodruff/Peralta short starts?

Hearing rumors that Caleb Boushley is being called up and is slated to start tomorrow night.

Can't imagine that ends in anything other than a ton of runs on the board for the desperate Cubs. Shame because I'm going to the game, but understandable. Good for Boushley though, and I hope I'm wrong.

Must prefer Woody skipping his start as opposed to starting tomorrow and then going back out 4 days later for the Wild Card game 2. Makes sense in light of Saturday and his injury-plagued season.

Would love to see Boushley! Was fantastic last year. This year he has struggled but has been a constant presence in the Nashville rotation (one of only 3 pitchers with 100+IP alongside Gasser and Junk). I think he has earned at least one major league start that has no real consequences.

I would also like to see Junk. Already in the 40-man and had a solid season in AAA.

Would be kind of odd at this point to DFA somebody off the 40 man just to get Boushley a start. Would appear to be other guys on the 40 man (Junk/Lauer) that could eat innings. Still wouldn't be surprised if Woodruff is the opener Friday to get some work in.

They don't need to. They're currently at 39 on the 40 man.

EDIT: NVM. I forgot Donaldson brought them back to 40. So, Andrews/Jones look like DFA candidates to me. They'll have to start creating space in the offseason anyways.

Gasser and Junk — all bases covered.

Looks like Mitchell is getting a run out tonight. This'll be intriguing

Let's hope he feels good at the plate. I have mixed feelings about DFA Anderson since he seemed to be finding his swing.  He's streaky, and he maybe he could or can be helpful when it's go time.

He strikes out too much to be helpful in the postseason imo. Mitchell strikes out too but at least you can use him as a defensive replacement or pinch runner if need be.

good call. I might just put money on Burnes under 6.5 ks
