Damn.  Last week I posted that our pitching curse was lifted, too. Every time we enter the post-season we seemingly lose a top pitcher or have them less than 100%. Fingers, Sheets, Gallardo, Williams, Woodruff, Marcum, Burnes, Woodruff again, Peralta, etc.  wow

Hard damn work being a Brewers fan...

Horrible news.

I can see a lot of speculation and questions coming, especially if this is the same injury he had when he was out.  Did they rush him back too soon?  Should they have limited his innings more?  Should they have let him go the distance in that complete game? Hindsight is 20/20

If this is the same injury as earlier this year, you have to think he might have surgery right? If that's the case, we might not even see a 100% Woodruff in 2024 as shoulder surgeries are just absolutely devastating for pitchers. I'm just major dooming on this one.

I wouldn't go that far yet. Surgery pretty far down the list of prescriptions. And if that is what is likely required, you would think they'd rule him out for the postseason entirely. Possible, but too early to go there.

Post-season wise, 3 aces is a real luxury. 2 aces is still a really good spot to be in. Especially when you have Miley as your backup option and the best bullpen in the majors to shorten games. The margins are tighter, but there's still a path forward. Offense was going to have to step up regardless.

This is the same team that said Woodruff's original IL stint would be a minimum IL stint and that turned into missing 4 months. Not to mention Ashby was having shoulder issues in January and didn't end up having surgery until close to the start of the season if I recall correctly. Hogg said Woodruff is getting a second opinion this week. Usually you don't get second opinions for minor injuries.

No, but you also get them if one doctor says you're going to miss the entire postseason, whereas another says you could potentially make it back in time.

I'm not ruling out surgery as a possibility, but it's too early to start going down that road.

If you saw the video of Woodruff and how he broke down talking about the injury, he is definitely out for the entire postseason. They just aren’t going to declare that today because there’s no reason to.

When they talk about second opinions it seems like it’s only a matter of having surgery or trying to do what he did during the season that involved 4 months of rehab.

We'll see. We're all making assumptions at this point.

Normally true, but not with our offense and the Braves and Dodgers looming.  Brewers had maybe a 1 in 10 shot of making the WS before the injury.  Anything can happen but this stinks.

I’m not making any assumptions. I am reading what has played out right in front of our eyes.

My conclusion is that the chances of seeing Woodruff pitch this postseason are the same as seeing comebacks by Ben Sheets or Teddy Higuera.

I'm not saying he's pitching this postseason. The safest assumption obviously is he's not.

But you're literally making an assumption right as you say "I'm not making any assumptions."

You know what he means. It should have been prefaced as "I shouldn't make assumptions" rather than "I'm not making assumptions" but whatever.

Isn't Shawn Marcum available?
