That's kind of wild. Good for Lugo, but that's a lot of cash for him. Makes Burnes even more attractive.

MLBTR projected 3/42. FanGraphs came in at 3/39.

Not too much of a Royals tax.

Waiting for the announcement that Lugo will be paid his first 3 years in car wash tokens, will receive a briefcase full of IOUs from 2027-2035, and will be paid out in deferred Yuan (presumed US currency by 2035) in annual $2M payments until either the total value reaches $45M 2023 US dollars or he passes away, whichever happens first.

Only $3M guaranteed for a proven two way MLB stud. Sad day for the MLB.

Hey, he’s getting a cool million more than Ohtani this year

The one FA I would have paid a lot for signed with the Giants:

Would have been fun but man we just have absolutely no shot at these guys coming out of Japan and Korea.

I feel like 6/113 is a massive overpay for Lee, especially tacking on 18ish million as a posting fee. At 25, I can see how his value is decent but he doesn't have notable power or speed (based on sb's).  I would think he should hit and field ok but that alone isn't worth over 20 million for the risk of him flopping. To me it's a big risk to get a guy like Yoshida from the Red Sox.

Never been less shocked by a FA signing in my life.

He'll probably bang a few HRs against us, too.

Should open the door even wider for a Santana reunion with the team’s biggest competitor over his services now seemingly out on the Santana sweepstakes.

Fun fact: Lugo rarely pitches more than 100 IP per season. Usually far less than 100 IP.

2023 was his career high with 146.1 IP.

In fairness, 2023 was his first time as full-time starter since 2017.

I've been waiting for them to sign Hiura on a flyer - and then watch him hit 40 HR playing with that home ballpark (0.950 OPS/0.600 slg in about 100 plate appearances there)....then again, perhaps some of Hiura's success hitting in Pitt had more to do with Pirates pitching, lol.

I have a running bet with a buddy that Hiura ends up in Pittsburgh, so this made me laugh.....sort of.

Royals are going nuts! First they nab Seth Lugo, then they add Michael Wacha (2-years/$32m) and Hunter Renfroe (2-years/$13m).

LOL, these are basically February contracts they are giving out in December. But if it gets the hot stove fired up a bit more ...

Not sure it will be enough to win that crappy division but none of these are super long deals which can't hurt them too much.

Really like what the Tigers and Royals are doing... AL Central could be one to watch.

The Royals have a lot of holes. They're filling them with (relatively) affordable pieces without longterm baggage. The quality of those players isn't the best - but for KC - they hope they are at least serviceable so their younger players can develop.

The Brewers are lucky in that we don't need a ton of pieces. Doesn't mean we can spend to get better - but it's not like we are filling three rotation slots - like the Cardinals. That's costing them $50m this year.

Agreed on us, only hole I see is 1B.... If Black is indeed gonna be our 3B.

Would love to add Hoskins or Garrett Cooper to play 1B.

Royals are spending some money. Sheesh.

In that dumpster fire of a division, they may wind up being the favorite come Opening Day depending what Cleveland wants to do with Bieber
