Interesting. An in-season DSL-to-ACL promotion. I had been wondering about the 12:1 K:BB ratio in only 5 2/3 IP this year. He had also seen a wild 0.444 BAA with 12 H in those same innings. A promotion lends me to believe these weren't hit all that hard. Anyhow, congrats to Señor Broca!

That's interesting considering the Sounds have three active catchers and one on the temp inactive list.

  • LHP Darrell Thompson has been released by the Nashville Sounds

Please respect @wiguy94 and myself as we mourn the loss of our red bearded gunslinger. Please wish Darrell the best - he just became a father this season. Praying for the best for he and his family.

Hopefully Darrell can latch on with an organization that has a little less bullpen depth and have an Erceg-esque ascent somewhere in his future.

Very strange situation. Seems like he's been battling injury all season. Velo was down. On and off the IL.

Thompson actually requested and was granted his release.  Opportunity has not been there for him to break through in Milwaukee and he now gets out of his AAA minimum contract and will make 5x more in his next contract.  Thompson shared with me that between 5-10 teams are interested in his services.  Just a matter of finding which is best for him and his family!

Good for him! I wish him the absolute best of success(es) in his next stop(s). He was such a fantastic storyline in 2023. It seemed he definitely created a Triple-A baseline for himself this season - in the very least. Hopefully, he can get into the call-up game with a Big League ball club and finds a way to stick. Love that financial news for he and his family having just become a new dad. That's huge!

Kuhnel’s been solid and I believe he has one minor league option remaining:

Indeed he does, Daniel:

Quote

Around those transactions, he has tossed 25 Triple-A innings between three different organizations with a 2.52 earned run average, 14.3% strikeout rate, 7.6% walk rate and a lot of ground balls. Those peripherals are fairly in line with his major league track record, which consists of 85 2/3 innings dating back to his 2019 debut with the Reds. In that time, he has a 6.30 ERA, 19% strikeout rate, 6.3% walk rate and 52.2% ground ball rate.

He’ll give the club a fresh arm in their bullpen for the time being. He is in his final option season and can be easily sent back to Nashville at some point if the Brewers would like. He has not yet reached arbitration and could be retained beyond this season if he holds his 40-man spot all year, though he’ll be out of options next year.

From the MLB Trade Rumors article published today. (Bold added for my own emphasis)

That's fantastic to hear! I was sad to see his release but good to hear that its for a good reason. Hope he finds a team that will give him an MLB chance.

Also this, along with Doston's release, helps with opening space for draft picks and UDFAs later this year.

- OF Terence Doston released by High-A Wisconsin

Wishing Terence the best. The 22nd round pick out of a Florida high school in 2019 (13 games in Maryvale that year), then missed, like so many others, a year of development in 2020. He would play 41 games in the desert in 2021.

Then, very oddly, Doston, at age 21, was assigned to AA Biloxi in May of '22, and spent two months with the Shuckers, completely bypassing the two A-Ball levels. He was sent to Wisconsin for three weeks at midseason, but then returned to Biloxi in early August, and played in 47 games there overall that season, posting a pretty darn solid .694 OPS there vs. a .399 OPS in the Wisconsin small sample. Those numbers say otherwise but wonder if a different path would have been more fruitful.

The real issue was a career slugging of .306, 23 XBH's in 618 AB's.

Hope he continues in ball.

- Signed RHP Ruben Saldana (from Mexico) and assigned to DSL Brewers-1

https://www.elmanana.com/deportes/reynosaenaccion/ruben-saldana-a-milwaukee/5860032

Originally from Reynosa, Tamaulipas in northern Mexico. According to the article the Brewers had been scouting him for over a year. Had also gotten interest from the Astros and Rangers. Has a 92mph fastball and some good breaking balls apparently.

Woodward hopes to be back on the mound in games within the next week or two.  Outlook for Crow is still the same at this point as it was this spring.

Any updates on Woodward the last few weeks?
