Ashby struggles continue……some bad luck there and then a bomb……he is going to have to prove it to make the team…….id start him in the minors.

I don't blame them for trying but he's looking like a swing and miss.

He's coming off injury and is just getting velocity back. Gonna take time.

Hopefully but he wasn't looking great before the injury.

His peripherals were solid. He was the victim of bad luck. But he's not that pitcher right now, so we'll see.

Of course the garbage Bally isn't working with Misiorowski is pitching. The only reason I continued watching the game and Bally's trash doesn't let me see it.

I have the opposite view, I was really excited about Ashby. His combination of high strikeout rate and high groundball rate is almost unique, the peripherals were really good. Was rough around the edges, but exactly the kind of guy who with fairly minor changes had the potential to be extremely good. Now I just really hope he gets all of that velocity back post-injury, as I feel that was really the key to make that 2-seamer work.

On that note, have we seen any velocity readings? Was only half watching (inbetween the techinical issues) but didn't notice it on the broadcast.

Prior to yesterday’s outing, Ashby was sitting 92-94, so a solid 4mph to get all the way back.

So his FB up a tick over his sim game — progress.

I actually liked what I saw from Ashby yesterday. His breaking-stuff looked really good, and while his command wasn’t good, for most of his outing he was around the plate.

I think with more work his velocity will continue to tick up, and I’m hopeful at some point this season he’ll get all the way back. And a 96-98mph Ashby with his secondaries is a nasty pitcher.

Not great for Ashby for sure, but the great part of spring training is that results don't really matter and he can focus on just getting his pitches right and as long as he can make progress through spring training he could still make the OD roster.  Just hoping to see progress as the month progresses and go from there.

Sitting 94 and scraping 95 is quite easily up 3-4 mph from his average outings in late summer/early fall while he was grinding through his early rehab. These are massively encouraging numbers and results. Very encouraging.

Offense!

Probably won’t happen right away but I would love to see Chourio leadoff and have Yelich in the 2 hole. I think Chourio would likely see some good pitches to hit in the leadoff spot. Win - win IMO.

DL Hall's velocity did drop off from 96+ mph  quite consistently in the first inning to 93-95 mph in the second, just something to keep an eye on. Good to see Freddy getting through three innings at this stage as well, very positive with four further outings before opening day

For those who are in AZ, how is Wiemer's swing coming along?  Is he keeping it compact and controlled, like we saw in the video clip? Or is he back to swinging at the bumblebee hovering above home plate?

Chourio 3-3 with 2 doubles

lots of walks today from the pitching staff…….Ross just had 3 in 1 inning ……2 strikeouts as well.

ST mostly meaningless, but noteworthy the pitchers those 3 hits came off of.

Webb (x2), Rogers.

Those are tough ABs for a 19 year old, even in the spring.

Exhibit A of why we should take ST results with a grain of salt. Junis almost exclusively threw fastballs today and barely went to his slider, which he threw more than 60% of the time last year.
