By the way, in regards to game threads, they are up for grabs. I usually create them in the morning but if you come here and don't see one, create one if it suits your fancy. Thanks!

So Chourio goes from batting leadoff to batting 9th.   Huh, that’s odd

It's more odd that he's actually starting against same handed pitching. I assumed we'd only bat him against lefties and turn him into a platoon bat...

So Chourio drops from the leadoff spot all the way to #9. I kind of liked him hitting #1, but I guess you can look at it as a second leadoff position.

We take right and left handedness very seriously.

If he's the superstar in the making that everyone thinks he is, you don't treat him with kid gloves. I hate when teams do that. He should be playing almost every day. At least he's in the lineup.

To a fault.

Makes you wonder if we had drafted Yelich and developed him as a prospect, how long until we would have let him hit lefties? I don’t recall shielding Prince Fielder from lefties very often, if ever.

Does Murphy really think Adames is a better hitter than Hoskins?

In March 2024, Adames might be better than Hoskins. Plus, harder to plunk someone in the second inning?

Chourio lead off was to get him in the game from the start so he wouldn't think too much abo. Murphy said so yesterday. I think we are very likely to see Chourio hitting in the bottom of the order for a few weeks, until he proves he can handle big league pitching.

My last post about “ the slide” ……looks like McNeil wasn’t above really going after a guy from time to time……scroll down the thread.

I probably should have done blue font. I've been pretty vocal in my frustration with the Brewers platooning frelick, turang, Mitchell, etc when they've all smacked lefties in the minors. I would truly hope they don't try to inhibit chourios growth in a similar manner

I'm one who thinks that most left-handed players SHOULD be platooned.  I certainly understand the sentiment of playing guys everyday until they fail,  but I don't think Frelick needs 650 PAs this year.  450-500 is plenty and if that gives more ABs to capable players like Perkins/Monasterio/Ortiz so be it.  I like a fresh, engaged bench.

I certainly hope that at least Frelick does get SOME ABs vs lefties and if he is successful then perhaps he gets even more chances, but there isn't anything wrong with a "soft"-platoon IMO.

But did they all smack LHP in the minors?

Mitchell 2021
817 OPS vs RHP (205 PA)
732 OPS vs LHP (63 PA)

Mitchell 2022
847 OPS vs RHP (256 PA)
768 OPS vs LHP (87 PA)

[Mitchell smacked RHP, LHP less so)

Turang 2021
711 OPS vs RHP (368 PA)
705 OPS vs LHP (128 PA)

Turang 2022
767 OPS vs RHP (399 PA)
781 OPS vs LHP (204 PA)

[not much R/L split in the minors, though debatable that he really smacked anyone. 610/465 OPS split in MLB]

Frelick 2021
840 OPS vs RHP (119 PA)
1054 OPS vs LHP (33 PA)

Frelick 2022
890 OPS vs RHP (396 PA)
865 OPS vs LHP (166 PA)

[best combination of smacking and minimal splits, but followed it up with a 722/569 OPS split at the MLB level in 2023]

I don’t have a problem platooning any of these guys until they demonstrate they can stay healthy (Mitchell) or hit RHP at the MLB level (Frelick/Turang).
