Enough blah blah about Imanaga ...

I am still ga-ga for the team in Milwauka!

Bryse will make the Cubs swing and miss not once, not twice, but thrice!

Of heaven tonight, we will have a slice!  No need to roll the dice!

Imanaga is a nightmare matchup for the Brewers. The two pitches he throws 90% of the time are two pitches we suck against. High IVB FB and splitter.

The Cubs have 3 effective starting pitchers than that are basically 2 pitch pitchers...reeeeally.

You keep wondering how these guys are able to get away with it and why our guys don't just sit on those pitches until you see a Pitching Ninja overlay where you're unable to identify more than one baseball 3/4 of the way to the plate.....

The amount of variety you can throw is significantly less with a 2 pitch mix than a 3 or more pitch mix. Even if they sequence/tunnel their pitches very well, it's still only 2 pitches and the combinations of what they can see is less and should be easier to hit. There's a reason most starters throw 3+ pitches.

That's quite true in general. However, Steele and Imanaga, for example, are exceptions because of:

1) Variety in movement and velocity. As a result, their two pitches are more like 3+pitches.

2) Location. They rarely miss their spots leading to fewer drivable pitches in the heart of the zone.

Combine that with the tunneling and you have the results you've seen from them.

No Dunn needs more at bats to not swing.

Of qualified batters this year, Oliver Dunn has the worst run value on pitches taken. Sal Frelick is tied for last on run value for pitches taken in the heart of the plate, and Christian Yelich and Oliver Dunn are tied for the worst run value on pitches taken in the waste part of the zone.

I expect the Brewers to break out of their slump tonight, because it is not expected.  Justin Steele came in with a 5.60+ era on Monday and we should have hit him.  We often struggle where we should thrive and visa versa.  Imanaga has a strong IVB fastball and a split fingered fastball, and he is lefty...  we would expect to struggle.  For no good reason, I think we score our first three runs of the season off this starting pitcher tonight.  Sure hope to hear some more about Trevor Megill soon, other than knowing it is not fractured.  Closing by committee takes another turn...  thank goodness we had Paredes waiting to come up.

Would be very baseball for the Brewers to go what 30 innings this year without scoring a run against a Cubs SP just to score runs against Imanaga today who like you said is a really, really bad on paper matchup for the Brewers

Looks like another one of those "drawn out of a hat" line-ups...

We pretty much know our2-4, after that it's anyone's guess every single day.  I bet the players hate that crap.  This is nothing new, Counsell always employed the same strategy.

They really should be using the DH to rest Contreras more while Hoskins is out and they’re playing Sanchez anyway

Why not just let him catch both? Contreras has been slumping with the bat. His xwOBA over his last 50 PA is .307. Maybe shown signs of fatigue 2 months into the year. He's on pace to catch almost 240 more innings than last year.
