2021 - 22nd in fWAR

A top 30 SP is only mid-rotation if there were 10 teams in the MLB

Freddy's at least a #2 starter. Not a bonafide ace like a Burnes, but certainly more than "mid-rotation".

He looks like Tobias Myers today

It's one freaking game. If Contreras goes 0-5 at the plate today is he suddenly an average starting C?

No, but he could probably use  day off.

He's just not an ace. Lacks the consistency and inning eating to be an ace, but man people need to actually look at other MLB rotations if they think Freddy is a mid-rotation SP.

Should have been more concerned with Peralta than the lineup.

They did sign an innings eater.  He got hurt.

Who are you referring to as an innings eater?

We signed several oft-injured pitchers

If its against the Phillies thats one thing but the last thing this team needs is a short start with the best team in the league next up.

Have you watched Freddy all year?

He’s had as many poor games as good games.

Just shows how lucky we were to have a top three of Burnes-Woodruff-Freddy. Its a shame we did nothing to improve the lineup when we had a great rotation.

Is mid-rotation not a 2/3 type starter?

Freddy is a good pitcher but when its him and four bottom of the rotation arms we need him to be better.

#2 AT LEAST. That's definitely more than mid-rotation. He's not a 3 starter.

He is not a number two on most playoff caliber teams. I still like Freddy but I liked him better when we had two better starters. Having him as our unquestioned ace with the rest of the rotation being 4s and 5s is not a great situation.

Freddy is not as consistent as elite aces. That's all. I'd put him in the next tier of guys, and that's great. As our number 3 starter, he was fantastic. As our number 1, he's a downgrade compared to what we are used to.

Long way to go today.

I think this is a classic problem where people often think of an ace as a top 10-15 pitcher in the league.

Wonder how many 3 games sweeps there are in the MLB in a normal season?

Winning the series should always be the goal but you really want to sweep a team likely to lose 110 plus games.

Because that is what an ace is.  Just because there are 30 teams doesn't mean there are 30 aces and that doesn't mean some teams don't have more than one ace.  Freddy is a good pitcher, no question.  I just believe he is an upper tier mid-rotation starter.  On team with a good rotation he'd be a 2/3.  That doesn't make him a bad pitcher.
