Black’s eye at the plate isn’t helping him in the majors.

Except he got rung up on a ball (yes it was close) and strike one was a clear ball.

first pitch was a ball for sure  strike three was too close to take.

Now we are going to hear how Steele screaming at everyone changed the season

shame on the brewers today.   The cubs were going to give it to you and blew it

don’t  let them get the series win tomorrow

And the second pitch might have been a strike and might have been a swing.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Yeah. I mean that Black has a very good eye at the plate. The strike calling system in AAA with challenges and automatic calls isn’t the same in the majors. So what may have helped him at AAA is harming Black in the bigs.

Both teams were pretty awful with RISP today.

4 for 23 combined and one of those was a pop-up that should have been caught.

Yeah, the Cubs gift wrapped two of their three runs today. Not a good showing by the offense.

I wasn't thrilled with the 1st & 3rd play w/Contreras at the plate. I wouldn't have done it, but you're facing a team that hasn't exactly been airtight & if anyone asks about it you'll hear the "it's what we do" line. So IMO not a "Murphy is a moron" type thing. I was much more upset about the inning where we tied it at 2-2. They're kicking it around, you feel like it might be implosion time. Ball gets by the catcher to put runners on 2nd & 3rd with one out--and Yelich can't touch the ball.

I might've considered Hudson staying in for the 8th if for no other reason than Mr Everything-Goes-My-Way-vs-the-Brewers (Happ) was due up 2nd & I like turning him around. But again, we made the exact same move Wednesday & it worked out fine. Maybe moving forward we're looking to go away from him throwing 2 innings, then being down for 2-3 days. I guess we'll see. It boiled down to them ambushing Myers early & it paid off.

To me it wasn't the 1st and 3rd play as much as the timing. Not until at least one strike and probably 2.

I didn't like that it was with William at bat. He is hitting like .350 with RISP. Just take 2nd and let Willy C. drive them in, I'm pretty sure he had 2 hits at that point.

Part of my distaste for that is that we do it like every time we have 1st and 3rd with 2 outs. We are not fooling anyone with a halfway decent scouting department or in division rivals (or our ex head coach who knows how much Murph loves the little league plays).  I don't know what the success rate is but it seems like 2 for 5 or 6, which isn't terrible.

Yeah, not a well-payed game on either side today. We lost, and it happens.

Giving the matchups, a split of these first 2 seems good. Freddy is always inconsistent, but the offense really hasn't shown up other than the Chuorio swing on Friday (which was also a wall-scraper).

A 4-2 homestand is fine, but 5-1 would be awesome.

I'm just gonna say it. The Cubs may beat us tomorrow (and may well win the season series), but without some reliable bullpen arms and probably another hitter, they do not seem built to contend.
