On one hand, you can attribute the scoreline to some bad luck and shoddy defense.

On the other hand, when you allow so many baserunners and balls in play, you're bound to give up some runs.

I don't know if I would have allowed Freddy to face the Mets lineup a third time, but I'm curious whether the choice of relievers matched the degree the game and the series was on the line.

They have 12 base runners, outside of the errors.  We've had 11.   They have twice as many runs.

We've got to put a little pressure on this pen. The advantage of facing these guys has nothing to do with hitting or travel. It has everything to do with bullpen.

I'll might be more frustrated with that if we go quietly than at that disastrous defensive 5th inning.

One of these years they'll get over the hump, hopefully.

Not intending to be negative, I just have that feeling like it won’t ever happen. The uncompetitive nature in which this team has lost its post season games concerns me. A lot of sweeps against us the last five years.

It's a product of (1) game start time and (2) we're such consistent winners that the opening round is no longer a novelty.

Just looking at ticket sales, it's going to be an upper-30,000s crowd, I doubt anyone will even notice that there are a few thousand unsold seats. It will be a loud, energetic crowd.

I don't blame people for waiting for the NLDS/NLCS (if we win...).

3) People half-expect this kind of performance now. It's a "win a series or two then wake me up" attitude.

I will fully admit I never got super engaged in this season partly because I think MLB is FUBAR. The Brewers of the world won't ever get through an October against the very best.

Not only did the Mets completely blow the game open in the 5th, but now the lineup has completely turtled, which will allow the Mets to rest their better relievers and put no pressure on their pen.

The whole "undaunted" thing sure aged poorly.

Alright, here's a trend that can't go on forever:

No Wild Card Series has ever gone three games. Obviously, that means no one has ever won after dropping game one. Why not us?*

*I still have hope for today. That's the beauty of baseball.

Yeah, it' easy to say watching it on TV but it sure looked like the wind left the sails after that inning.

It's so frustrating to immediately give up leads the next inning. Go up 2-0? Immediately give it up. Claw back 4-3? Immediately give it up.

Done it all year

All the energy left the building, no doubt

Civale pitching well. Now we need a rally to at least make this game exciting the next 6 outs.

No indication of that happening.  Just gonna have to give it their best effort tomorrow.  Gigantic uphill climb to get out of this round now.

11 straight without a runner.
