In the wake of the Bucks’ trade deadline lowering expectations, a thought flashed through my dispirited mind: Would we possibly trade for INF Anthony Rendon and how much of his remaining 2-year salary would we be willing to take on?

That would be gross.  Dude doesn't even want to play anymore.  Baseball is not a priority for him, no thanks.

Talk about a clubhouse cancer.

Why would the Brewers even want to do this?  Rendon hasn’t even played more than 60 games since 2019.  He is just not worth it unless the Brewers would be paying him the league minimum.  He just doesn’t bring any value.

Toss a reliever at the Mets for Baty.  He hasn’t proven anything and the Mets don’t have a spot for him.  Let him compete with Dunn and Durbin.

This makes a lot of sense to me.  I’d be open to actually letting him be opening day 3B.

Based on what exactly?

I view him as a lottery pick at this point.  Worth it if dirt cheap in a prospect, but handing over the starting 3B job to him wouldn't be very smart. He's done nothing to earn it.

Lottery ticket………lottery picks in basketball would have a much higher expectation for success……..unless of course the Bucks are drafting them…….😏

I can see calling Baty a lotto ticket, it was only 2 years ago he was the #21 overall prospect with above average tools across the board except speed. He wasn't good in the bigs in 2023 but was pushed through the minors a bit fast only 32 AAA games, 4 games low A. He did put up a 0.3 WAR in 50 games last year which isn't great but with more consistent playing time something to build on. He isn't your traditional lotto prospect but I would say he has like a 40% chance of being a dud, 40% chance of being a bench player/platoon option, and 20% chance of fulfilling his potential and being a Alec Bohm or better style 3B. I would be fine adding him if the price is like Peguero or Payamps maybe add in Collins or someone comparable. He could hit .250 with average defense and 15+ HR, I would be happy with that for this year at 3B.

Not getting INF Kike Hernandez

I hope that Durbin/Dunn are ready, because at least free agent wise there isn't much left that would convince me not to give them a shot.

This is what I believe.

Boeve had labrum surgery in October and he likely will need more time before he’s 100%.

I saw that Keith Law was pretty down on Boeve’s ability to play 3rd base…..

I had thought he was ok to average there but if Law is right that kind of changes the outlook for him.

Yep. Also listed in that article in a spot you wouldn't want to be is possibly our starting 3B at the moment, Oliver Dunn.

"Baty is one of just 11 who fits the following three criteria: a higher-than-average strikeout rate, an ISO under .100, and little or no reasonable expectation of playing an up-the-middle defensive position regularly."

I did not know that. I can't find any details online. Do we know; is it Quero-level surgery, or was this an arthroscopic clean up of something?

Not sure, but he said it’s a 6 month recovery time so I’d imagine he’d be playing games again April/May.

Pretty much all that is left on the FA 3B market are guys like Ty France, Patrick Wisdom, Joey Gallo, Brian Anderson, Aledmys Diaz, Nick Ahmed, and Jace Peterson. Basically guys in their early to mid-30s, who have played 3B in the past but aren't exactly great out there, and are looking at minor league deals.

Add to that Paul DeJong and Luis Urias. It sure looks like barring a late trade, the Brewers are going with what they have. Either 3B or SS becomes a black hole in the lineup.

How about getting Ryan McMahon from Colorado for Sal frelick  and Tyler black maybe add a young pitching prospect

The Rockies are dumb and want to hang onto McMahon for some reason

I wouldn’t want to trade such young cost controlled talent McMahon.   And I’m not trading Black until he is given at least 400 abs.

My GOD.....this has to go down as one of the worst free agent signings/contracts in MLB history, right?  Maybe THE worst?  The guy hit 34 bombs in 2019 (his last year in Washington).  In the first FIVE years of his $240M contract with the Angels, he's hit a total of 22!  I mean, it's remarkable how bad that contract his been for the Angels.  Their owner might has well have taken $240M in cash and thrown it right into a blazing fire.
