This is the first I have heard of this information...

Christian Yelich (back) has a chance to be ready for Opening Day.

“I think there’s a chance that he can be involved early in the season for us, but we just want to be super cautious with this,” Brewers general manager Matt Arnold told MLB.com. “Once we get him on the field getting live at-bats, we’ll evaluate him and see how he does.” There’s zero incentive for the Brewers to push things with Yelich as he continues to recover from last August’s back surgery, especially since they want to have him fully healthy for the stretch run and postseason. Arnold previously stated back at the Winter Meetings that the veteran outfielder was on track to be fully healthy for spring training, so this latest development is a bit surprising. There should be some much-needed clarity on his Opening Day status at some point during spring training. Stay tuned.

The optimist in me reads the quote as he may be ready for opening day. I appreciate the sentence reads the same as the thread title.

Seems like under promising by Arnold. In any case, we have the outfielders to be competitive without Yelich. We certainly what Christian to be healthy in October.

I agree 100% but I think it would be wise to take baby steps with him early on just to be on the safe side.

When they clock his bat speed and see him with live AB you can worry about this.   If you do not remember the Brewers Thrived without Yelich in the last half of 24'.  They can survive him easing into things if that is the best course of action.       I think Yelich will be okay though.   The surgery he had is very durable and it had a very short recover time.

I would not worry about this until it is a reality.   Yelich will be feeling great and when he is feeling great he is near impossible to keep out of the action.         I am all for letting him not rush it however.   If there is a path that leads to a reborn Christian Yelich who can swing away without worrying about throwing out his lower back all the time it will bring some very special seasons in the very near future and I for one am all for that!

WE need him to be fixed and his entire story in baseball is completely hinging on the success of this fixed back.  So you are darn right baby steps.      The chance of a fully renewed Yelich is much to enticing to risk on rushing him into things if it's not the right move.

He reminded us all what a fully charged up Yelich looks like when he was feeling good last year and I really hope this surgery fixed him.   He deserves to put a hurt on his legacy with some superstar numbers in the coming years.

I agree with this article from last season.

Doesn’t it seem that Yelich is either injured or practically playing every single day? There doesn’t seem to be much of a middle ground.

I'll be honest, until that article it never occurred to me that Yeli might not be back in time for Spring Training, much less the regular season. Not a great sign.

I guess the doom and gloomer in me kind of expected news like this to come out. The surgery Yelich had has a very good success rate, but it also has a pretty serious recovery time for a normal person, much less a professional athlete. Add in the idea that Yelich has never really been known to be a fast healer, it makes some sense.

Here's hoping that we see him on the field before May.

Agreed.  Personally, I'm hoping for a Best Shape Of My Life quote from him 😀

Move him to 1st base.   I dunno about full time DH.  If his back is fixed it is fixed and he is a pretty good outfielder.   But if it helps his stay on the field so be it.  I highly doubt it has been playing defense that has kept his back sore all these years.   His back problems come directly from his swing.  You can see him throw out his back while swinging at the All Star game last season.        I dunno .  I just want him healthy for a stretch run because a healthy Christian Yelich puts us over the edge last season again the NY Mets and that would hold true in future big moments.   Yelich is too good to lose this way for all of baseball .   He could be a legendary player without the back issues.

I am begging you and others who have that Doom and Gloom thing to lose it! I want you all to know that we should stop doubting this and accept that this is a very good Brewers team with a big future here.      Everything said by our manager is being taken wrongly .    He did not say Yelich was not going to be ready he said they were going to play it by ear and see what it looks like the same as Woodruff.    Who today announced everything Murphy said was pretty much dumb and made everyone fearful for no reason.

I get why you are sceptical with Brewers baseball being a exercise in doom and gloom.   We are only lacking in buy in as a franchise and it is the fans lack of being able to accept this team is actually in a good place that is currently holding this team from bigger wins.     We come together and buy in here we can win things we never have.    Join me!

Oh, I am one of the biggest optimists around this site. But when it comes to Yelich in particular, I try to be very careful with my positivity LOL.

Christian Yelich said there’s no concern about his status for Opening Day following back surgery.

Yelich seemed a little annoyed that GM Matt Arnold labeled him a question mark earlier this week. He’s been gearing up normally and said he feels good. The Brewers will surely go slowly with him at the beginning of the spring, but that’s pretty typical, too; he’s totaled between 11-14 games each of the last four springs.

Happy to hear that Yelich should be ready to go. I really hope that Murph doesn't ride him and Contreras as hard this year.

I don't want to start a new thread. Not sure where the game thread is from Miz' 11th IP 0 hits record since 1900.

Yelich set an all time record in the same game. Barely find any mention towards it. So to give him his due, Congratulations to Yelich for being the 1st to ever have 8 RBI in a game, while not scoring a run in it. That requires at minimum having 3 hits with runners in scoring position and the batters behind him not getting any hits
