Interesting little blurb...

  • Orioles 3B prospect Coby Mayo went 3-for-4 with a walk, two home runs, and three RBI for Triple-A Norfolk on Wednesday.

Mayo is now up to six home runs and 21 RBI on the season while sporting a .935 OPS. Yet, even with Jordan Westburg on the injured list, Mayo remains at Triple-A with Ramon Urias starting games for Baltimore. At this point, it’s unclear when, or if, Mayo will get another shot in Baltimore. His best bet at playing time may be as a trade piece that brings a starting pitcher back to Baltimore.

Don't think we have a starter they'd be interested in besides Freddy. Which unless things go super sideways before the deadline I am not all that interested in dealing. The return of Ortiz and DL give me pause working with Baltimore. They are one very savvy front office.

Not sure how much that was Baltimore versus the Brewers.  The Brewers wanted Hall because of the potential he has;  but there were always red flags, from his lack of innings, to his control issues, to his age, to Baltimore deciding to move him to the pen.  The Brewers wanted someone with a really high ceiling and went with Hall for that reason.  Ortiz was a solid second piece but projected to be a utility player (Ortiz is also older than you think. While this is his age 26 season, he turns 27 on July 14 basically making this about an old as you can get age 26 season.)

Generally speaking, the national narrative so far is that the Bal front office has botched it hard the last few years to kind of blow the amazing position they were in with such a loaded batch of hitting prospects all coming at the same time.   They've made some really odd deals the last two deadlines combined with odd FA signings

Thought I'd give this a bump since Coby Mayo recently took his 100th plate appearance as a Major Leaguer.

Over 107 PAs he is now at 155/234/196 (27 wRC+) with a 35.5 K%.

Tiny sample. but in only 87 innings at 3B he already has -4 DRS | -2 FRV.

Well, I think it was a safe bet to argue that not all those upper level highly ranked prospects were going to pan out.

He has a wRC+ of 87 over the past 14 days which by Brewerfan end date picking means he'll be an All Star by August.

I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

Wow he really has had a rough year. He was a pretty universal top 20 prospect and now he really shouldnt be in any top 100. He doesn't have near the value he did at the beginning of the season. I doubt the O's would give up on him cheap, especially with them likely to trade O'Hearn and maybe Urias. There should be big league everyday playing time for him for the last 2 months.

My Mayo offer would be like Boeve, KC Hunt, and maybe a small 3rd piece.

If the brewers are confident in wilken and Adams defensively at 3rd, I’m ok with Mayo focusing on first base.

My offer would be DL Hall back in their system, along with Carlos Rodriguez (p) and Ernesto Martinez.

CRod not being healthy at the moment might make this a non starter though.  But that’s a deal they’d have to consider otherwise .

Do you have something against DL Hall, or do you just figure him to be good trade bait, helping us get a piece we need?

You include him in every possible scenario, so it appears you very much dislike the guy.

Hey Turbo.  I’ve missed you and good to hear from you again.   I like DL Hall a lot but Ashby more and you have to give something to get something.   Simple as that buddy.
