The Low-A Mudcats had an early start today as they commenced their series at Royals’ affiliate Columbia. LHP Wande Torres (3.86 ERA, 2 Ks in 4.2 IP entering the game) made his 3rd start. DH/INF Luis Pena entered with a 10-game hitting streak.

Picked the wrong Mudcats matinee to watch from the start, now 9-2 Columbia in the 7th, although seeing LH starter Wande Torres touch 95 MPH was of interest. Torres has some heft to his 6’3” frame.

Things fell apart for Jesus Flores in bases-loaded situations in the 6th, and a Braylon Payne - Reece Walling outfield misplay was unfortunate. I anticipate we’ll get video of the bases-clearing incident shortly. It was ruled an error on Payne, but both players were awkwardly in play for the blame on the near-collision.

OMG, how did I ever express the sentiment above!

On second thought, you’ve perhaps just watched the Half Inning of the Year!: 8 runs on 7 singles and 2 doubles. Holy mackerel!

Seems a tad unfair that the Fireflies can trot out a guy whose name is literally “You don’t go” - Mr. Elvis Novas. Hopefully we can push this to extras and he can go rest somewhere.

Luis Peña is swinging the bat so so well. Third double of the day in the clutch too. He is a top 50 prospect in all of baseball. Planting that flag right meow.

Looking at you, Mr. Made, all the way down at 15.

And Bitonti leading the league in doubles (and second in walks, behind our own Walling) without a HR.

** Late Edit. He actually is tied for 7th in all the minors in doubles. Only players ahead of him are AAA and have played more games.

The four Carolina players on that list are 21 (Dinges), 20 (Adamczewski), and 18 (Pena/Payne) years old.

The four Kannapolis players on that list are 24 (Miller-Green/Sprinkle), 22 (Montgomery), and 19 (Bonemer) years old.

The other two players in that Top Ten are 25 (Ross) and 22 (Thompson) years old.

AAA Nashville is home this week to battle Rays’ affiliate Durham, with RHP Jacob Misiorowski (2.89 ERA, 21 Ks in 18 2/3 IP) starting tonight’s series opener. International League Player of the Week CF Daz Cameron (1.408 OPS with 4 HR, 14 RBIs and 3 SBs in just 36 PAs) hits in the Ignitor spot in the lineup.

The video de-sync for Biloxi for the CF camera has now become an audio de-sync as well. The current broadcast is unwatchable with volume on in my opinion.

The Mudcats hitters today took their legend to a new level. It takes a special kind of mojo to look that scary in a loss.
