There was a time where he seemed to have turned it around, but after a couple more weeks, one of these things is not like the other:

Woof.

Ortiz since June 1 last season:

.213/.282/.326 wRC+ 73.

He started his career with two on fire months and has been bad since.

Yeah Ortiz had a bad July. I’m ready to quit on him. Probably have to move Turang to SS to make it happen though.

I tried to log in on my iPad. Turns out it was an etch-a-sketch and I don't own an iPad. Also, I'm out of vodka.

Willi Castro has played 5 games of shortstop this year. For any Twins fans, is he an option there?

With Vaughn, Collins, and Durbin playing so well SS is the only position I would really want. If we got a reliever like Mears last year at a good price or traded for a late inning reliever relatively cheap I would be OK.

On top of that buy low options like IKF don't do much for me. If we go after a SS I say go big, however I really doubt any of the better SS on selling teams are available.

I haven't seen Castro play SS but from the stuff I've read he seems to be an emergency SS and not an everyday option. But like I said I don't really know.

Let's get weird.

1) Maikel Garcia for Issac Collins, Joey Ortiz, and Jared Koenig.

We get the big SS upgrade and KC gets young controllable depth.

2) Steven Kwan for Pratt, Patrick, Wilken, and Hunt

It would be a steep price but Kwan would be a perfect Brewer with Garcia each of the package would be mostly blocked.

3) Danny Coulombe for Tyler Black and Carlos Rodriguez (maybe a lotto style 3rd piece).

We upgrade the late inning lefty role for 2 more blocked young upside guys.

4) Jose Quintana for 2 way Conrad Cason and OF Zach Ehrhard

We replenish the system and bit and don't hopefully lose anything when Cortes takes Q's spot.

This gives us an amazing lineup, doesn't really hurt our rotation (still massive depth) and strengthens our pen. On top, of it we open up a bunch of 40 man spots for Arnold to work some magic with.

I can't take much more of watching Ortiz start on a team that is a contender.

The Blue Jays are reported to be willing to move positional players for pitching. Assuming they wouldn't move Barger, what about Schneider?

Brewers: Schneider (BTV: 10.8)

Blue Jays: Koenig (BTV: 9.8) and Cortes (BTV: 2.3)

This just feels like a Brewers trade.

Brewers wouldn’t trade Koenig I don’t think.   Quintana AND Cortes together maybe but doesn’t really fit Toronto.   Tyler Black is a Canadian and could be a fit in some type of deal with Toronto though.

Garcia would cost more than that - He's under control for 4 more seasons after this one.  He is one guy that would cost a top 5 prospect plus 1 or 2 serviceable players. Reminds me of a young Segura.

You might be the only person that thinks Tyler Black has trade value

I just don't see the Royals trading Maikel Garcia. For a team that wants to compete as early as 2026, they would have no motivation to move him.

But Henderson for him

They also have like four quality bats and he’s one of them. If they want to have any chance of competing they need to be acquiring them rather than getting rid of them

I just don't think that would be enough to motivate them.

I mean, the 25-year-old Garcia is a borderline all-star in today's extremely thin 3B position. In order to replace that value for a team that wants to win, they would need A LOT. Otherwise, they'd be like every other contender that is looking for a third baseman. Henderson is a great guy to have in your organization, but I'm not sure he represents the sure thing that the Royals would need to get back. I think if the Brewers went to the Royals and were willing to give up Durbin, then maybe.

There's a reason that controllable assets are so expensive, in terms of prospect-value.

Oh...It would cost more than Henderson to get him...Just saying that since he is a player than no one wants to trade, he is the exact player to headline a trade for Garcia.

This is my "final" deadline plan. We go for a complete lineup with no big holes. We value guys that can play multiple positions. I would platoon with the infield often.

Brewers: Castro (BTV: 4.1)

Twins: Burke (BTV: 2.5) and Anderson (BTV: 2.5)

Brewers: Schneider (BTV: 10.8)

Blue Jays: Koenig (BTV: 9.8) and Cortes (BTV: 2.3)

I don't think we need any relievers. Bring up Myers or Henderson and put them in the same role that Hall and Ashby are now if we need to.

Frelick (RF)

Chourio (CF)

Contreras (C)

Yelich (DH)

Vaughn (1B)

Castro (3B)

Collins (LF)

Durbin (2B)

Turang (SS)

Bench: Jansen (C), Schneider (2B/OF), Perkins (OF), Ortiz/Hoskins (both on the roster in September and playoffs)

Maybe as a throw in.

I think the times of Black having trade value are over, sadly.

Bringing Mauricio Dubon back could make a lot of sense with the Astros adding Urias and Correa.

Poor Rock in the booth. A left side of the infield made up of Durbin and Dubon would probably give him fits.
