The incredible Milwaukee Brewers continue excelling in the league's smallest market with a diminutive payroll in comparison to most teams as usual.

Over his last 71 AB and 30 days, Durbin has OPS of 1.001. I think we can put to rest the idea of upgrading 3B for awhile.

For all the drama, Ortiz has .765 OPS over last 72 AB and 30 days, That’s quite a bit better than Dansby Swanson’s 2025 OPS.

Im sure we could upgrade the offense by moving Ortiz to a utility role, though. I assume Turang is physically capable of playing SS this year.

The easiest and most impactful upgrade the Brewers can make in the next two weeks is an upgrade to Bauers. If we can get a power bat to pinch hit late that can spell against tough RHP ... that will make a difference.

I think getting O'Hearn would be fantastic. Do that and keep everything else as it is. Use our pitching depth to save innings on the bullpen and on the Miz.

O'Hearn upgrades Bauers. It rounds out the offensive roster for everything except SS.

We run out a normal lineup like we have been doing. On a normal day, Ortiz gets 2 PA. For the 3rd PA from SS, we pinch hit one of Hoskins/Vaughn/O'Hearn. Mona comes in to play short and bat the rest of the way.

Monasterio is a significant step down defensively … at least via the eye test - not sure of analytics.

I hope O’Hearn is an option at the deadline for 1B.

Adding Neto at SS would be worth a top prospect because he has a few years left before free agency.

The Angels aren't going to trade Neto

Let’s remember we traded one of the best starting pitchers in Brewers history for Ortiz. His 2024 OPS+ was 103 and was nearly a 3 WAR player.

Ortiz is probably still a meaningful part of our future. I agree let’s not run a -0.9 WAR player out there every day but I have to believe there is upside for Joey in the second half.

I may be one of the more ardent Ortiz fans on this forum. I love his glove. I like his bat (at least the 2024 version). I predicted he would be “much improved” in the middle 54 games of the season. He improved for a bit but has regressed over the last few weeks. I didn’t like the way Murphy publicly ridiculed him. Neto is likely not available as an upgrade for Ortiz, so I would be thrilled if he gets red hot & we get to keep our prospects. My hope is we don’t trade for a third baseman. I’m not excited about McMahon OR Suarez. I love Durbin & would like to continue with the current crew. The one exception would be adding O’Hearn or another option at first base.

I agree that Ortiz > Monasterio.

I'm just thinking that the real liklihood of trading for a cost-controlled shortstop who is a meaninful step above Ortiz is pretty small. Neto (LAA), Abrams (WAS), and Otto Lopez (WAS) are really the only options. And there aren't really any rental candidates.

Murph has not given that many AB to bench guys this year. So, can we set forward a plan to drop a few Oritz ABs to give more AB to the stronger hitters on our bench?

Given these two possibilities:

A: Trade for Suarez, then shuffle Durbin and Turang.

B: Hope for positive regression from Ortiz.

I think scenario B has a higher probability of success. I like Ortiz too, and I don't like the idea of a big shuffle mid-season.

I am definitely in the Ortiz fan club. Turang is best at 2B, and Joey has shown he can hit MLB pitching, or at least he did in 2024.

I am not ready to move on from him this year, let alone for the future. I keep coming back to him having to adjust to SS, and maybe that's impacting his offense. Let's at least give him the next home stand.

I think we are very fine off with Joey Ortiz.  He can field with the best of them, and his hitting potential is far better than his overall results this season thus far.  He has been getting very decent results this past month or so, too.  Let's keep this team together!  Don't bust up a good thing!

Not only is Monastero a big step down defensively, he’s a step down as a hitter as well. Also the day Hoskins returns is the same day we cut Bauers for good.

Pitchers have figures Ortiz out. It's his 2nd year. It's his turn to adjust to them.

Joey thru May 9th (141 PA)
171/230/202 (24 wRC+)

Joey since May 10th (182 PA)
241/296/380 (91 wRC+)

Looks like he maybe made an adjustment a couple months ago.

He has to big of a swing at times and that gets him in trouble.

If you can get anybody worthwhile for Nestor Cortes you take it.   But I doubt you can get anything for him

Would we benefit from making a qualifying offer to Cortes? I assume he gets a multi year deal from someone.
