Would we benefit from making a qualifying offer to Cortes? I assume he gets a multi year deal from someone.

Cortes would need to have an unreal stretch run to get a qualifying offer after prolonged elbow issues.

At this point I think Nestor would accept a qualifying offer.

Think for him to put himself in a position to decline a QO in favor of a multi year deal he would need to come back looking like he did the first two months of 2022 when he put up a 44 ERA- | 62 FIP- over 53 IP.

I think getting O'Hearn would be fantastic. Do that and keep everything else as it is. Use our pitching depth to save innings on the bullpen and on the Miz.

O'Hearn upgrades Bauers. It rounds out the offensive roster for everything except SS.

We run out a normal lineup like we have been doing. On a normal day, Ortiz gets 2 PA. For the 3rd PA from SS, we pinch hit one of Hoskins/Vaughn/O'Hearn. Mona comes in to play short and bat the rest of the way.

I dont believe O'Hearn will be worth what he costs.

Im pretty sure we could get him.  Depends how bad Arnold wants him.

Sure in fantasy land where the Brewers would trade 5 Top 100 prospects they could get him but it's silly to even pretend that's realistic. The Angels aren't trading 4.5 years of their homegrown star SS.

I feel like it says a lot about baseball economics that the point of making a QO is to have it declined.

It would be nice to have the fun of getting to play for getting into 1st one of these days, but the Yankees and Red Sox have been useless.

Going to be a race. Cubs should be favorites given their schedule. Not too worried either way. That 5-game series at Wrigley in August is going to decide a lot, with a nice little appetizer next week.

Did you say the same about Yelich?

Neto fits like a glove.

The Marlins were in a fire sale when they traded Yelich. The Angels aren't in a fire sale. The Angels are so anti-fire sale that instead of trading Ohtani for a massive haul when he was 2 months from FA they held onto him and lost him for a comp pick.

Thanks for not answering my question.

I don't recall Yelich being traded for 5 Top 100 prospects so I ignored the stupid question

Taking shots at other posters is kind of your thing, isn't it?

They may have been at the time and never panned out. Lewis Brinson, Isan Díaz, Monte Harrison, and Jordan Yamamoto but only 3.
