Contreras (before this series) seemed to be coming out of the funk a little. He's been drawing walks pretty much all year, and at least has shown the tendency to hit behind runners. I think these are the main reasons why he's usually still at #2. Someone like Durbin looks like a fit there, but for a kid who has had success hitting 7 & 8 in his first taste of MLB, often the smart money says leave him be.

No denying though, it was an ugly series for him at the plate.

Again I’m totally fine with moving Contreras down. Take some pressure off him, too. Move Durbin up, move Collins up, I’m fine with it. Yes, I’ve been frustrated with Contreras at the plate, particularly this series.

But the narrative around Contreras is out of control. He has a 97 OPS+ and 98 wRc+ this season, making him literally average offensively, even in a down season.

He’s put up 2 WAR on the strength of really good defense. And again, his offense has been average. And we know he has the upside for more when he’s right. He’s proven that.

I know people tend to be emotion first and logic second here, myself included, but this narrative that Contreras has just been this unplayable black hole in the lineup this year just isn’t supported by any metrics at all.

Contreras seems so much worse because he has been so much better the other seasons as a Brewer.  Players go through this kind of stuff, it isn't uncommon, but I do feel we have been pretty spoiled by the catcher position offensively the past couple of seasons.  The fact that he is scuffling is magnified by the production we are used to getting from him.

Id flip him with Vaughn for a while and as long as Vaughn keeps OPSing over 1.000 id leave him there.

We have Hasse, Seigler and Contreras to choose from as our catchers, no chance anyone of them are better than William.

Glad the season series is over. This Marlins team is a major pain in the arse, and some of the ball-strike calls didn't make it any easier. Kudos to Ashby for overcoming the Miami bats & two umpires to throw a scoreless 7th.

Felt bad for Durbin. struck out (iirc) twice to begin his day, then in the 1st & 3rd w/one out didn't want (understandably, I guess) to go deep in the count again. Looked to go the other way, and got a first pitch that was perfect for that very thing. Pulled-in INF so they had little range to either side. One-hopper right at the 2B. Until the last couple innings it was that kind of day.

I've never seen anything like Chourio, in that he can be so very dangerous, get his hits & yet still be so incomplete as a player. Still chases waaay too much, but easily our most productive guy right now. It's like viewing a Rembrandt that hasn't had the borders painted in yet. I think the long-term deal we signed him to might be the best money the team has spent since Inking Dalton & Bamberger after the '77 season.

Andrew Vaughn is hitting the ball hard while striking out only six times in just short of 50 PAs. Guys have sometimes simply gotten hot after joining a new team, but boy would it be nice if something was actually unlocked here.

Alumni weekend is over, right? Burn those caps. I'm done feeling like I'm pulling for Juwan Howard & Bo Schembechler.

FYI, the retro caps had nothing to do with the Brewers alumni weekend.

All 30 MLB teams were wearing old style caps from their franchise as part of Hall of Fame weekend. So, the Brewers were wearing the style caps they wore in their first year in Milwaukee in .1970.

And, if you can’t see the difference in the colors and style of the Brewers capcompared to the maize and blue and the Michigan block  M,  thats   on you.😀

Once Chourio learns some plate discipline, he's going to be an absolute monster.

The Contreras conversation is wild to me. If you don't think he should play 7 days a week it's like you are saying dfa the guy. All I am saying is given his injury and given he's been well below his standard a couple more days off here and there wouldn't hurt. Was there any reason he had to dh today? Not really. Haase handled things fine. Put Perkins in the field for another lefty bat and keep Yelich as the dh. Swinging the bat has been Contreras problem. A full day off a couple times a week would make Haase better and healthier Contreras.

You cannot tell if anyone is participating unless you actually vote. And then you can only see that day's vote in progress.

Thanks Brock for the graph.

Are there other questions we could try for the daily poll?

I'd have rested Contreras today so he is fresh for the Cubs series.

Haase career in Milwaukee: .727 OPS (142 PA)

Contreras (2025): 688 OPS (426 PA)

Haase 2025: .636 OPS (73 PA)

I trust our pitchers perform better with Contreras. I don’t see evidence that Haase couldn’t handle an additional start at catcher per week.

Too close for my taste😛.

I remember the early 70s caps. This M looked a little bigger & thicker than the original, Either way, glad to mothball it.

The Brewers early 70's block M caps were pretty much the same M as the Milwaukee Braves caps, but in blue and yellow. Agreed the ones this weekend looked slightly thicker, especially on the batting helmets. But still nowhere close to the Michigan block M which is much much thicker, and a darker shade of blue and lighter shade of yellow. I love these Brewers caps! So simple.
