Teams are giving up honest to god prospect capital for relievers and we just bought ours. This rules.

This must be what it feels like to be a Yankees fan.

Montgomery was on a $22.5M deal, which is roughly $7.5M remaining.  Brewers saved roughly $2.5M on Cortes, so they grew payroll by ~$5M to get Shelby.  That's some creative maneuvering.

Brewers are only paying $3 M of Montgomery's remaining salary. It's Cortes and a PTBNL/Cash for Miller, Lockridge, and Montgomery's salary.

I don't think it is a PTBNL. It is reported we sent nothing.

It was reported PTBNL or Cash considerations, and more often than not it ends up being the cash considerations. So nothing.

You put yelich back in of every day and he will be hurt before the playoffs even start

Note we also have to clear two 40 man roster spots for Lockridge and Miller.  Cortes and Montgomery were both on 60 day IL so that is no impact.

Means we need to expose two players on our 40 man roster.

Quintana is mostly living off his signing pedigree at this point.

Made and Pena were the hits in that class, and boy were they ever.

He was experiencing a bit of a resurgence in the complex league. He is only 18. He is a below mid tier prospect. Still that is too much.

He is a 18 year old SS with a 752 OPS.  That isn't nothing.  I would not trade him for Lockridge

I don’t have a problem giving up Quintana but I’d be curious to know the motivation behind adding him to the deal for the Padres. It’d give some insight into how much wiggle room our front office has in the budget

Were the Brewers really looking to offload the remaining money and they’d only do it if Quintana was added? Or could the Brewers have eaten the money and not given up a prospect?

Yeah that free agent move didn’t work out all that well for the Twins

But that was them going for it....

He's an average hitter in the ACL....The odds he never amounts to anything are like 98%.

He has a worse wRC+ than he did last year in the DSL....

That's all I'm saying. You cannot do nothing period.

Wow. You said “period.”  Now I’m convinced.

Lockridge hit .877 and .842 at AAA the last two seasons…..and he hardly hit HRS.  Got on base over 40% of the time.  Another Durbin/Collins perhaps?   If he could fill in on left side of infield, I would understand. Now?  It looks like a move for next year.

For me Quintana isn't a huge loss but he does still have some big upside still. But just the idea that we put such a negative value on Cortes is confusing. The Guardians got Khal Stephans a borderline top 100 prospect for Bieber. Cortes isn't the same pitcher but I feel like we should have gotten a Quintana like prospect not given one up. Especially if we are paying any part of Cortes.

Locking doesn't look any different than Avans or any of the other AAA OF. It does seem like every other team got the Pads to overpay in deals and we got got.

I do like the Miller deal especially if it is only a couple million for Montegomery (don't like much if it is the whole 7.5) As someone eluded to Montgomery would be a good minor league/minimum salary vet for next year.
