I like the idea of German Marquez best, he has a big arm, getting him out of Coors, and being a full year from arm surgery recovery should be huge. He could start or at least be quality option with his stuff playing up in the bullpen.

Might be a good idea, our track record bringing in guys with 6+ ERAs is amazing....

Some catching options:

- Jhonny Pereda - in DFA limbo
- Riley Adams - in DFA limbo
- Alex Jackson - surplus after Caratini signing

I think at this point we maybe add a cheap vet arm or two and a vet catcher.

Other than that I would save money and prospect in prep of adding someone Ike Buxton or a rotation piece like Alcantara at the deadline. We will no doubt have prospects to add someone of high end valuen and hopefully some control.

Tyler Black, Brandon Lockridge (Perk or Mitchell could be included), Steward Berroa, Carlos Rodriguez, Easton Megee, Sammy Peralta, (probably others)

All of these guys seemingly don't have much of a path towards playing time, obviously most of them will just go to AAA and provide depth in case of injuries. I would think none of them have much in the way of trade value and maybe a couple Berroa/Peralta could be dfa's for other roster additions.

I guess I would focus on Black and CarRod as the biggest what do we do with them issues. I think Black will get squeezed out of AAA playing time with Adams, Wilken, Boeve likely at 1B/3B and an OF of Lockridge, Baddoo, Jones, Lara. For CarRod there are AAA innings and a rotation spot but if guys like Crow, Hardin, Wichrowski, Kuehner start well he falls down the line a lot and is likely the 8th or 9th starter as it stands.

I don't like the idea of trading either for a young lotto ticket prospect but at this point (assuming no major mlb injuries) that might be the best route come the end of camp. Thoughts

I wouldn’t be too worried about Tyler Black. A college player who turned pro nearly 5 years ago. The Brewers are likely closer to needing his 40 man spot than they are to penciling him in at the major league level.

Although,  Lockridge is an extreme roster redundancy and will be 29 by Opening Day, so he just as easily could be DFA’d with less risk of being lost on waivers than a former first round pick from a half decade ago.

That Megill for Schneider trade I mentioned before would look rather cromulent at the moment...

Assuming there's not a big splash made, I'd be down for signing someone with defensive flexibility like Ramon Urias who can start the year as the third baseman and then can shift to a utility role if/when one of the prospects is ready to come up.

Or maybe Luis Rengifo who is a UFA.  I love switch hitters and he should not be too expensive.  He ight be really happy playing in a winning organization. I think the cost would be around $5 million.

I think that would be prudent.

But screw it. Let one of the kids play.

Circle back to Mets - Offer Megill for Baty

Since the Mets added Bo Bichette, Marcus Semien and Jorge Polanco during the offseason.

Baty now appears set to fill a utility role for them

I’d also be interested in Mauricio.  Unproven, but there’s a skill set there.  Coming off injury. He would be a risk.

Think that ship has sailed, our chance to get Baty was with the Peralta deal.

3B for a year or two, then deal when the kids get to MKE?

Heard an Idea on the Fan yesterday about going after James Wood - I mean, it would take a huge offer ( higher than Yelich) but i would all about that. He doesn't hit F/A until 2031 - Pena/Pratt/Henderson/Adams is probably where it starts

No thank you on that package.

Generally like him and Abrams as targets.  But yes I'd agree in today's trading world that I don't think we should have to give up that much.  And if so, probably hold tight and focus on other options.  Someone like Abrams should be a lower price and fits our main position of need this year.  You'd control him for 3 years, so this year when he's desperately needed. Then one more as hopefully some prospects start poking their heads up in 27. Then he'd likely be traded in the following offseason assuming the youths are looking good.

Wood is looking like a soon to be DH. The fact that he is so young and his defense is bad is a red flag to me.

He would be our best player  - That package is light

Turang is better, Contreras is better and I would take Chourio over him for sure.

Take off the homer glasses - I guess i should have said he would be our best offensive player. He's 23 years old and in his 1st full season was a 30/15 guy with a very good chacne at being a 40/20 guy based on his advance stats

A position player plays offense and defense so I don't know what point you mean by just pointing out offense.

Should I post Vaughn's Savant as proof he is nearly as valuable?

Wood is a right around 50 overall  - Plain and Simple - If he moves to DH, so be it. Yordan Alvarez is still pretty damn good as just a DH

I'm not saying he's a bad player and an outfielder is a good idea for a target. If I am giving up a major package, I would like the guy to play defense too.
