Game 9: Eagles @ Packers - Monday, Nov 10th @ 7:15 PM

If they lose their next two games, they won't be a contender anymore. MM was canned midseason. It can happen to MLF too. I remember posting after the Steelers win that that could be the game that turns around the season. I couldn't have been more wrong.

He was fired at 4-7-1 with the team virtually eliminated from the playoffs. 5-5-1 won't do that, for the simple reality that swapping your HC in week 13 isn't going to make anything better. At 5-5-1, your best bet is just to ride it out.

I think they are going to get annihilated on Thanksgiving though.

I agree nothing happens to LaFleur while they occupy a playoff spot or are within a game or two of it mid year.

But if they go on a five game losing streak, then it starts boiling down to Policy and Gute. Does Policy give Gute the sense that he can throw LaFleur over the side and save himself?

And then what’s your plan? They probably either need the hot OC of the moment (Kubiak) or a CEO-type HC who has a line on an up and coming playcaller. It’s a desperate play, but it would be all they have at that point. Running it back one more time next year would be unthinkable, and so there’s little point in waiting, just like what happened to MM.

If you read the tea leaves from Policy, Gute is sharing the hot seat with Matt.

To clarify, I'm not advocating for MLF to be fired midseason. I'm just saying it's possible.

I would make no argument to save either of them. I’m just trying to imagine what it would take to see LaFleur fired before the second half of December. If the two are tied together (and I think you’re right), then it makes it harder to imagine LaFleur gets fired before we’re eliminated.

Was there anyone in the literal world who couldn’t see on that last gasp 4th and 1 that the Packers were running an inside dive to Jacobs?

The other horrifying thought I have is that the defense is probably not even as good as it looks. But other teams have so thoroughly figured out that they stand a reasonable chance of keeping a lid on our scoring that they just don’t need to take chances on offense since handing us a string of turnovers is the only way we run away against anyone.

Ironically, that means our best chance to win will come against aggressive teams who refuse this approach on general principle—like Detroit.

But I’m done trying to talk myself into this team, so I’m not pursuing this thought experiment further. It’s been a horrific month of offense, and nary a silver lining in sight.

I am still finding myself giggling about that FG 'try'. What an incredible emblematic Bisyatch/LaFleur led SPECIAL Teams effort. What on Earth are they doing? This season's unraveling tailspin is such a beautiful disaster.

But this is Green Bay, which means everyone will realize the coaching staff sucks but wait another four years to do anything about it.

The Mark Murphy era is over. This is the Ed Policy era now. Barring a big turnaround, MLF is as good as gone after the season.

Matt Lafleur facing a 59 yard FG: “too far, better go for it.”

Matt Lafleur facing a 57 yard FG: “too far, better punt it.”

Matt Lafleur facing a 64 yard FG: “ah hell, Brandon can make that.”

Well that is emblematic of the whole thing. LaFleur doesn't have a strategy. Everything he does is reactionary based on what he's feeling in the moment, and unfortunately he is usually feeling stupid. He also has no ability to deviate from his script based on game flow. You can take a look at Sirianni last night for the contrast. After the fumble/stop (I can't remember which it was), it was clear he was taking a kill shot on the long touchdown pass. Not a doubt in my mind that MLF goes into R-R-P-punt in that scenario with a 3-pt lead.

On the 4th and 6, there was no hesitation to go for it. Offense stayed on the field. He clearly decided when they got the ball that it was 4-down territory. Contrary to what everyone's saying, them going for it on 4th and 6 was the right decision IMO; a punt into the end zone does nothing, you potentially trade 14 yards of field position. I'm not sure why they chucked it to the end zone, and didn't just run a favorite play for 6 yards, but it was clearly pre-determined that was going to be move.

Almost seems like Lafleur may be a "hack."

Here is Jacob quote about the play.  Lefleur may be losing the team

“They called out our play,” Jacobs said of the Eagles defensive front that recognized an inside zone run. “We ran it like four times. They called it out. … Whenever they know what we’re doing, it’ll never feel good because it changed my mind on how I’m going to run the ball, if we’re just being honest. It makes me kind of like guess what I’m going to do.

“I kind of didn’t want to run right there … that’s just how it played out.”
