Until then how many times will we have to watch Ortiz cost us a game with bases loaded?

Not many.  Our offense isn't good enough to put three guys on base that often.

Dude no offense but the amount of times Ortiz comes up with bases loaded is hilarious. Do you actually listen or watch the games?  This is a narrative that is true.

I don't post often but I listen to about every game year in and year out.

He did it again tonight.

How do you justify paying Pratt 50 million if he can't beat out this version of Ortiz? It makes no sense.

Signing him to that contract is about 7-10 years from now buying out FA years. That doesn’t mean he’s ready now. You don’t sign these guys for immediate payouts.

That's fine except the bottom of your roster could have used that 50 million to add some depth and talent instead of signing homeless vets like Renigfo.

Part of me thinks that we should just bring up the kids and let them take their hard knocks. It would be better than enduring a season of Ortiz, Perkins Rengifo, and Lockridge

There is no doubt. If Made was up in that situation instead of Ortiz would you have felt better or worse?

Saying this with your restless child fidgeting next to you late night on a school night as you field questions from the media is as ironic as it gets.

Made for sure. But we haven’t signed him long-term.

In any event, the offensive bar couldn’t be lower for Pratt so I hope they bring him up sooner rather than later.

Pratt has a perfect 0.000 ISO this year.  He avoided hitting any extra base hits in spring training and in AAA! As bad as Ortiz has been in Milwaukee, Pratt has been as bad or worse in AAA.

If Pratt cannot even achieve a Joey Ortiz level of offense at the MLB level, that contract is going to look puzzling.

Murphy seems to have developed baseball blindness. If Trevor is going threw it, let him go threw it in Nashville. This is not a seniority thing.

Man looks in the abyss, there's nothing staring back at him. At that moment, man finds his character. And that is what keeps him out of the abyss.

If we lose this game, this was the inning. We had Gausman on the ropes and Turang and Sanchez had some really poor impatient ABs.

This didn't age well.

Also, every bullpen move we make at the deadline is trash.  Norris, Curtiss, Rosenthal, Bush, Chafin.  Mears was terrible for us in 2024 but good in 2025.

go back to Scott Linebrink even.

A 20% walk rate is nice to see out of Mitchell but I sure would have liked to have seen him crush that 3-1 meatball he got in the 9th and won the game instead of leaving it up to Ortiz.

I’m still not a fan of extra inning rules - starting an inning with a runner on 2nd base made sense in the pandemic. It is not “true” baseball. Some of my favorite baseball memories are lengthy, late night extra innings games that lasted five to six hours. I don’t like the current model. Cheapens the game.

in the minority but I agree with this

This is likely a fruitless debate, but you do understand that they're only spending a couple million this year, right? They didn't throw $50M in an escrow account for future Pratt expenses. Your point really doesn't hold water.

My point is the same. The bottom of the roster is trash. You signed guys like Rengifo who did not have a job. You have guys like Matos who were dfa. I don’t care how you want to slice it more resources were required in order to make this team coming off an nlcs run better. The Pratt thing doesn't hold water now or then given the so called tightening of the belt that you signed check notes.... no free agents. If you want to hold on to the theory that signing Pratt made tons of sense given he's done nothing past High A ball that's fine. I think resources are resources and if you spend them poorly it should be called out.

It’s worth noting there is a big difference between signing replacement level free agents (or waiver claims) and above replacement level. We miss on Rhys Hoskins and Matt Garza signings, too. So do many teams.
