I love Murph, of course, but he's just wrong here. Old white guy policing the celebration of a young latin american player. If MLB wants to come down with a fine, whatever. Murph didn't need to give his full throated support, but he could have been a lot more diplomatic in a way that isn't scolding or embarrassing Uribe.

Normally I’d agree with you for sure man, and as I said earlier the one team I don’t mind openly disrespecting is the Cardinals, but what is a manager supposed to say when someone does something so over the top kinda out of nowhere? I mean he gave them three “suck its” right in front of everybody out of the blue!?!?!

"Abner's an emotional player and we like that from him. Maybe he went a little overboard there, but we don't ever want to take that emotion out of him. It's part of what makes him great."

Even if you despise what he did, there's a way to handle that in the media that isn't "I was embarrassed" and "I don't know what got into him".

Here's Abner's explanation:

He's not wrong in the least.  That was embarrassing.  Embarrassing for the team, embarrassing for the Mgr, and embarrassing for Uribe.  That is something that might happen with a 12 year old in little league.

Old and white has nothing to do with this.  Had this been CC as our manager, or any other Mgr in MLB, they would have a problem with this.  Had it been Mcgill doing that absurd embarrassing little "look at me" dance, Murphy would have had the same reaction.

Stop with the race baiting nonsense.

Uribe embarrassed himself on TV.

100% and more importantly, he embarrassed the team.

There's a reason the WBC looks like the world's greatest party when the Latin teams play. They encourage emotion and celebration. It's awesome as hell.

Here's Abner's explanation:

Just because a player is an emotional player, doesn't mean that anything that player does should be accepted, or tolerated.

It was in poor taste, and extremely immature for this level.  All it really proves is that he has a lot of growing up to do on the mental side of things.

I feel like you just are mistaking the difference between celebrating and taunting. Uribe has a very extensive celebration every time he finishes an inning and Murphy never says anything. Do you really think doing the suck it motion 3 times directly at the opposing dugout is celebrating not taunting? Can you show me where in the WBC you saw celebrations like that?

I think you sound silly when you're policing emotions and celebrations. Someone can MF, point, and yell at the opposing dugout, but heaven forbid they do a celebration that's been around since the mid-90s. Who cares. It's only a story now because Murph made it one.

And he probably put a bullseye on one of the regulars in the lineup.

I was more on your side and I watched Uribe’s explanation and I get it a lot more now.

He did apologize first and foremost and then he mentioned the Cardinal manager was making motions that they were going to hit our batters.

So Abner was pissed and rightfully so. Did he go about responding the perfect way? No, probably not, but I get it, and he apologized. Moving on.

Honestly.   And I’m saying this respectfully       **** off with the “celebration of a young Latin American player” nonsense.

he’s a professional baseball player.   Grow up and get outs.     It’s not a death sentence for the kid but he’s already done stupid crap in the past.   Figure it out abner

Murph with the predictable response post-game. Disappointing.

Murph has been coaching for 44 years, he knows what he's doing.

I'm sorry but you really buy that? If they were going to throw at a Brewer why didn't they do it? They had all the reason to do it especially after Uribe did what he did.

Yeah. I’m going to give our player the benefit of the doubt and not just assume that he just made it up on the fly in the middle of an interview,

Counsell on a some what hot seat and so is David Stearns. Those guys helped build something here but got greedy. Shame

No excuse for Counsell, at least Stearns grew up a Mets fan.

No one, including Murph, asked the question of why he did it in this instance? Then he gives you the answer and it's not good enough.

Whatever, I'm sure his teammates loved it.

I think it was dumb of him to do it but it doesn't upset me.

Do I love it? No. Would I have preferred if he just walked back to the dugout? Yes.

Do I think that his explanation that the Cardinals did something at some point during the game to instigate it and he didn’t just randomly decide to fire off a “suck it” motion their way, is at the very least plausible, if not likely? Also yes.

So the Cardinals manager during the game was signalling to hit Contreras and Yelich while they were at the plate but the players just didn't oblige? It would hardly be the first time a person has said a white lie after they did something they shouldn't. I'm sure Lucroy actually broke his hand by a suitcase falling on his hand and that Braun failed a drug test because of an anti-semitic delivery driver.

I mean you can believe whatever you want. I believe Uribe didn’t just spontaneously decide to send an unprovoked crotch chop their way,

So finishing the game with a W wasn't enough for Lil' Abner?

He had to make it all about himself.  That's what it comes down to.  "Hey everyone, look at me, I can do stupid little vulgar dances after we put a beating on you!"

Doesn't add up.  He lost control of his emotions once again, did something that is embarrassing to both himself and the team, and we have people here standing up for him?  It was a douche move.  I'm a Brewers fan to the core, but I can't stick up for that behavior, just can't do it.

Imagine if a player did that to us after a game where they already beat us 6-0...  I doubt it would go down to smoothly for us Brewers fans.

Celebration is fine, I have no issue with emotion and living in the moment......................to a point.  He crossed a line, made himself and the team look foolish, and now tomorrow, someone just might wear a fastball because of it.
