Up and down series against the very good Braves, time to get back on track against the Reds.

On an unrelated note, I just created the game thread over on Twins Daily. Did you know that ERIC LAUER is starting for the Dodgers tonight? A payroll of nine trillion dollars, and they're starting Eric Lauer in June.

Do we know what the corresponding roster move is? They might want to keep 6 starters, which means one of Rom/Kuhnel/Yoho goes down. Gasser has made this choice tougher than it was a couple weeks ago.

i expect they will definitely want 6 starters.. all the starters need to be spaced out for various reasons and Gasser has proven adequate lately and that translates to innings relief.

Definitely one of Rom/Kuhnel/Yoho.. id guess Rom

With only 1 day off until the break, a 6 man makes sense

I hope we win today because there is nothing more enjoyable then the stream of “I never read the game thread because all of you are stupid” posters who then go on to make 50 posts about some obscure game thread post 15-20 days ago that they supposedly never read

Of course, that is so they don't have to start him in October...

"Rock, sometime, when the team is up against it, and the breaks are beating the boys, tell 'em to go out there with all they got and win just one for the Uecker. I don't know where I'll be then, Rock but I'll know about it; and I'll be happy."

I get it, but still. He was just cut from the Blue Jays, who are having a hell of a time keeping their head above water this season, and have contemplated giving 104-year-old Max Scherzer multiple starts.

Let's keep the in game threads about baseball please.  The last couple have gotten a bit testy with some user reports for veiled insults.  This is meant for everyone (not just Willie Key), but since it already begun, here it is.

I wonder what Nolan Ryan could throw these days... 😂

The downside of a 6-man rotation is that you have one fewer arm in the bullpen. I am neither pro or anti a 6-man rotation, mind you, just observing the managerial dilemma. With a starting staff that seems to often go less than 6, that's a lot of work for the bullpen in this upcoming stretch (in other words, the starters may be getting good rest, but the bullpen? Not so much)

Yeah I have my doubts they will go with a short pen for this long stretch coming without a day off…….Koenig seems to be close to returning too…..I’d assume ROM goes down when he is activated.

They are not going to DFA Kuhnel (my assumption, from the leverage spots they have been pitching him).  So Yoho or Rom.

I think Rom might go down now and bring in Koenig for Yoho, but, yeah

Yesterday was fun. The first time I checked the score the Brewers were ahead 8-1 in the third inning so I just decided to assume they were going to win and didn’t check again until the game was almost over.

WhenI looked at the box score I was a little surprised to see that Patrick had pitched 3 innings because I thought he would be the primary backup for Woodruff tonight. I guess that spot goes to Anderson now.

Note: If I raise something as a POSSIBILITY that does not mean that I EXPECT it to happen.

Rom was the one sent down for Woodruff. We are going to need our starters to step up this series with a light bullpen. Kuhnel, Yoho, Anderson, Ashby, Uribe, and Megill are the only guys who will be available the next two days and potentiall the entire series.

On the subject of the 6 man rotation, are any of the pitchers on the IL expected back before the All Star break?

The last I saw Henderson was throwing bullpen sessions but hadn’t gone on a rehab assignment, and Koenig was on a rehab but his velocity was down significantly.

The Brewers also need the offense to step up.

The Reds used their top two starters on Saturday and Sunday as they beat the Yankees, So the offense needs to take some of the pressure off the starters by putting some early runs on the board. In that park no lead is completely safe.

I'd guess Koenig is the only one who could be back before the ASB but like you said he just hasn't looked like the Koenig we are used to during his rehab process. His best average sinker velo in a game was 93.8 which is only a half tick below his 94.2 average before he went on the IL but also 2mph below his 95.8 average last year.

Henderson I think is the only other guy with a chance but we would need to see him go out on a rehab assignment within the next week for that to happen.

Koenig pitched back to back days Saturday and Sunday so I think his return is imminent. And while his velocity isn't quite where it was from last year, he had some pitches hit 95 both days.

I think isn't quite where it was last year is generous. The velo is down a lot. He's topped out at 95.6 during his rehab assignment. Last year he average 95.8 on his sinker but from June through the end of the year when he was pitching like the Koenig we are used to his sinker averaged 96.4. His hardest pitch on rehab is about 1mph below what his average sinker velo was when he was pitching his best last year.
