Via the Journal Sentinel Podcast: "Spencer Michaelis of Brewer Fanatic and Backfield Brew joins host JR Radcliffe to discuss the Brewers' 2026 draft, from top pick Brady Ebel and second-round pick Sawyer Strosnider to the sleepers Spencer really likes, including a dominant high-school pitcher from California. After JR looks back at the all-star game (a boring 4-0 win by the American League), the two also discuss the news Wednesday that the Brewers had traded for Astros pitchers Lance McCullers Jr. and Colton Gordon. Both pitchers have some question marks; what should we make of the transaction? Plus: What are the minor-league story lines to watch in the second half of 2026?"

I am beginning to wonder if we should be paying more attention to Enrique Lovera. The fact they have him leading off in that lineup does convey a sense of confidence from the organization.

Getting time in center field is also a strong positive sign for Lovera.

He was up in the 7th inning, needing only a double to complete a cycle for today, but walked instead.

I'd claim that they were scared of him, but that was the third consecutive walk issued in the frame.

Blue leads 12-4.

And now Matos has homered in the next inning. 13-4 in favor of Blue.

Gold are also up in their game 9-0, with starting RHP Jesus Rivero doing interesting things.

Osiris Ramirez might be another guy along with Lovera to keep an eye after some of the bigger name, higher bonus guys...

This is a pretty absurd Latin class for not having one of the top 20 bonus pool guys. Other teams have to be getting pretty frustrated.

Absurd is right. The depth of talent positionally seems deeper than the ‘24 class. This class has separated this system further from the rest of baseball.

DSL Gold made things interesting today. Went up 9-0 but then allowed 7 runs in the 6th to 8th innings to turn a 9-0 lead into a 9-7 lead. Matthew Moses hit a 3-run HR in the top of the 9th to push it to 12-7 which proved to be crucial with Pirates Gold scoring another 3 runs in the bottom of the 9th to make it 12-10. Wandy Cabrera came up big getting brought in up 12-9 with the bases loaded and no outs.

I think after the draft the Rays are probably gonna pass us.

$19M vs $8M in pool $ is hard to compete against so you could be right. But if the boys at ‘Just Baseball’ are right and the Brewers farm is twice as good as any other farm, maybe not.

Cairone with a bit of a rough first inning. FB velo was down to 85 by the end of the inning after being at 89 at the start of the inning. Only 1 unearned run against but 30 pitches with 14 for strikes and the misses were mostly really big misses.

Almost all these pitches way out of the zone were fastballs being misread as other pitches because the velo was so low.

Franky gets a pass on any rough outings this year. With the accident just being on a diamond is more than enough. With a healthy offseason we can hopefully expect improvements for next year.
