Nice efficient win. It felt like the offense was squaring up much better yesterday, but had tough luck. A little lethargic today, but did enough to win with the solid pitching.

I think Vaughn might be back one more year as a bridge to a higher end prospect like Adams, Burke, Adamczewski, or Fischer. I expect one of them to emerge as the future guy eventually but none may be ready to completely take over next season.

I get $10M isn't much... but we're paying $10M for a 1/3 player who continues to show he is unplayable versus righties.

I'm not completely sold on Bauers long term.  Happy to receive the benefits of Bauers best year this year, but I think its likely that he regresses in his early 30s.  Dont want to pay full price for a guy for multiple years with a poor track record.  Particularly with a stocked minor league system with corner infielders banging on the door.  Vaughn and Adams next year with Burke and Fischer in AAA ready to get called up.

The Brewers will get Bauers best year of his career at 30. If Bauers took a one year deal at $10 millions then he absolutely is a better option than Vaughn but Bauers should find a multi year deal pretty easily as long as he doesn't totally collapse in the second half.

Note to self: Dispose of any lists of possible deadline upgrades available re 3B. I'm not saying there isn't anyone that might be available that could help. But if there is, the expendable assets we have aren't going to go in that direction. Hard to fathom how good Ortiz looks these days. Yes, there was a LARGE amount of good fortune involved in the 2-run triple. But beyond that, it was a well-struck ball to the track, opposite field. Followed by another hard-hit ball oppo, then turning on one hard to the pull side. Then to have the discipline to take the walk-----he was your dream #9 hitter today. Then throw in his defense, which is becoming an afterthought but never should be.

I'm not ready to order a "Welcome Back Yeli" banner just yet, but his ABs looked pretty good this series. Looks like he's curtailing the chasing a little. If that can continue........

Thought Turang had some nice-looking ABs today. Let's hope the top 4-5 can start to catch fire.

Damn, Ewing likes to play shallow (or is being forced to). Might've made a difference on the Yelich triple.

Since you brought it up, and have all of the data handy, let me ask you a few questions.

First of all, I made my post after the Brewers failed to score in the FIFTH inning after loading the bases with nobody out. So:

1. What is the Brewers winning percentage when leading by 1 run after 5 innings.

2. In how many of those games did the Brewers hold the opponent scoreless for the final 4 innings while not scoring any add on runs?

3. In how many of those games did the Brewers blow a golden scoring opportunity in the fifth inning to complete a string of 15 innings in which they didn’t score except when gifted to them by a botched fly ball by the opponent?

So, I suppose when Vaughn hit into the inning ending DP in the fifth your reaction was “That’s OK, the Brewers have won 88.635% of the games in which they led by 1 run after 5 innings.

I think a lot more people would have the reaction “I hope that doesn’t come back to bite the Brewers”  

I think it’s common and natural for a fan’s feeling about a game at a particular time to depend heavily on the context of the game, not just cold data with no context

I agree that Yeli had a good game today, but his game on monday was awful ( I was there in person right behind home plate)... lots of weak contact.

But I will definitely give credit where due, Henderson, Yeli, and Ortiz won the game for us today

You're right. I'd say marginally better Monday compared to some of the tripe we've seen from him the last month, starting to get the swing decisions under control a bit. But I agree certainly much better today.

Even though we came close to not cashing in, I thought Henderson was quite a bit better than Scott today, which was key to get to a rested 'big three' for the last four innings.

With Vaughn I think you see how the year plays out. The injury is still a factor and it's nice to get some more info on the internal options. On a 1 year deal Vaughn could make some sense as you break in younger players over there. But at this point one has to like the thought of spending 10 million or so towards more long term extensions.
