I don't mind a headliner type in the deal, and I could live with Pena being that player, but a big no on Fischer. Wilken sure and even some others.

Interesting…. I’m a big no on Pena but just don’t think Fischer has the plate discipline to be a MLB player.

I won't be surprised if Fischer washes out, but I'd much rather enjoy those 40 HRs for our team if he doesn't compared to feeling bad if Pena can get to a Brice Turang level or maybe even a bit better. The health issues this season also open the door for me to the chance that Pena doesn't work out. So for me if we need a big splashy name to get a big time contributor it works.

I would not give up all of that for a rental.

His plate discipline is actually really quite good. His whiff is the issue and that is mainly because of the characteristics of the swing itself. Not an easy fix... I comp it a little bit to Hiura (not the swing itself) and the whiff likely will only get worse as he progresses higher.

Good call.  Plate discipline was probably the wrong term.  But I agree 100%.  From everything I’ve read, he seems like Hiura 2.0

if he could actually play defense, maybe a .220/.300/.450 with a ton of K’s and HRs maybe plays….

Totally fair.  I wouldn’t “give Fischer away” by any means, and would only trade him if he’s valued at a Made/Pena/Lara/Pratt elite prospect level.

that said, I don’t want to do an extension with him either as I think there is a much bigger risk with him than with Pratt/Lara.  On the flip side, if he is successful, there will be no way to resign him (like Fielder years ago)

Hiura never had sustained ISOs in the upper .300s like Fischer's done every stop. I don't think they are one and the same. You can take a more calculated chance on Fischer because when he does make contact, it's violent damn near every time.

They def won’t extend him, can just play it out and still get plenty of production if he ends up good, but I’m like 75% sure he’s more Russell Branyan than Prince Fielder. Way too risky to pay Fischer. Branyan had about 675 hits and 194 career HRs but 1100 Ks. And Branyan is one of the most direct comps to Fischer’s minor league stats actually. Both with over 30% K rates despite the HR #s. Fielder actually had a very low K rate in the minors (19.5%). Kyle Schwarber was like 23% in his last full minors season. Fischer’s in zone whiff rate is higher than every single MLB player this year while facing A+/AA pitching

I’d be willing to send Fischer as the centerpiece of a Skubal deal

Seems like Detroit wants a very good pitcher to send back as the headliner.

I’d trade Gasser and Pena;  that would be richer than most offers I’d think.  If Henderson, then the minor league pieces get smaller, maybe Fischer and Ragsdale.

And I’d like to do a Melvin where I say this is the package, don’t shop it, and get an answer right away. Offer these lucrative packages, get a quick response, and pivot to other players. I hate the idea of us waiting around to see if our prospect package is  chosen when we could making other deals.

With all of the luck the team has had with development, I don't like paying big for a rental.

On the other hand, we can’t play all these “good” prospects in the MLB anyways! Might as well trade some for premium talent that can help immediately. Somewhere in the middle is the answer.

FanGraphs just released an update of the Brewers system. They downgraded Fischer to a 40+, putting him as our #16 prospect
