Was thinking Bauers will grab a multi-year contract somewhere else, while we go with Vaughn and a minor league free agent like Dominic Smith to start the season.

Then Burke comes up after the Super 2 deadline passes.

Why not just go with Tyler Black as the left side 1B until Burke or Fischer are ready to come up. It doesn’t have to be a straight platoon. Still give Vaughn plenty of starts vs RH starters and see how it goes. Save a few million on bringing a retread in who’s only going to be Rengifo’d mid season.  If Black doesn’t perform well, at least now we know there is zero future there.  Go ahead and DFA him opening up a 40 man spot.

I hope not.  If the Brewers were rebuilding, I would be fine with that approach, but we have a legit shot at repeating as World Series champions.  We can’t replace our best offensive player with frankly a player that hasn’t shown anything to make anybody think he’ll ever be a major league player.

Someone else said it earlier, but I think we need to stack our team right from the start so we don’t have to overpay for what are very limited scraps at the trade deadline.

I think we need to stay with Bauers as plan A on the QO, and then roll with Vaughn with one of the rookies as part of the soft platoon at first as Plan B.

if black can show something in spring training and AAA to beat out Fischer, he can have his shot.   Otherwise, he is probably best served by getting into a bottom 10 organization who might have playing time available and nothing to lose

Instead of just a snappy, snarky response - you could articulate why you think it's a bad idea.

The Tyler Black idea was only a temporary roster spot until Fischer or Burke shows they can handle AAA.  Plus depending on the new CBA rules, they might want to manipulate their service time until June or so.  In that Scenario, Vaughn is the starting 1B.  Black would only be once in a while spot start and LH bench bat for a few months.
