My goodness, no he did not. This is an embellishment. This is how misinformation gets spread. And we so often on here just take a narrative and run with it.

Yes, he is known for getting sick. Yes, he made a casual quote when he was moved to the pen about being able to feel more relaxed, That was it. He never said he couldn’t start and would “get so worked up before a start that I’d make myself sick.” He never made any such quote as it relates to his pitching role.

If he did,, post the link and the quote and I’d be happy to stand corrected like I do any time I make a mistake. Otherwise, this is inaccurate. The man had an ERA under 3 as a starter and we are acting like he was such a mess that he can’t start. He can. No, I am not saying he should take Gasser’s next start, but I am saying if fully ramped up, yes, I believe he’d be a better starter than Gasser.

Here you go:

“I don’t want to know when I’m pitching,” he said earlier this month after moving out of Milwaukee’s starting rotation. “I like it this way.”

Thank you. This definitely supports what was said, and I stand corrected. I was mistaken and apologize to all for suggesting misinformation.

The very same article suggests he may still have a future as a starter, however, and his bullpen stuff hasn’t played since this came out like it was at that time.

Per Google AI:

Yes, Chad Patrick explicitly stated that he prefers not knowing ahead of time when he is pitching. [1]

The Milwaukee Brewers pitcher explicitly said, “I don't want to know when I'm pitching. I like it this way,” after transitioning into a multi-inning swingman role out of the bullpen. [1]

Patrick has openly dealt with pre-game anxiety and butterflies so severe that they frequently caused him to get physically ill and vomit before and even during his scheduled starts. Operating under the mindset that "short notice is the best notice," he found that not having time to overthink or get worked up allowed him to thrive on the mound. [1, 3]

You think you can hurt me? I watch Wisconsin sports. You can't hurt me.

I don't think anyone would be on this roster if the critics had their way.

You’ve never seen Vaughn play then!    He ain’t going anywhere

It appears as though we have given up offensively for the rest of the day. Gonna need the bullpen to hold this lead.

Not pouring it on. Always a recipe for disaster.

Aaron Ashby was the source of that quote, not McCalvy or anyone on the Brewers:

“I think Chad’s more than capable of being a frontline starter in this game,” Ashby said. “He’s got extremely unique stuff, and what we saw today is that when he’s dialed in and executing, he’s really good. For the time being, there’s that hybrid role. But I still see Chad as a frontline guy.”

Which is totally fair. Could Patrick start? Of course. But as long as he prefers the BP role and we have other starters to plug in (e.g. Drohan), we can use him there too.

And even with the anxiety, he’s been good in that role.

The starting pitching needs to stop sucking

C'mon, man.

Miz, Harrison, and Henderson have been spectacular. Drohan is well above average. If what you mean is "May stunk yesterday and Gasser wasn't much better today," fine, but it's hard to take your statement seriously.

Ah Gary. Just when they were talking about how restrained you’ve been today.

Actually one of his better challenges.

Relax.

that’s exactly what I meant.    This whole thing where everybody is getting offended by every innocuous post is just getting tedious.

How can you score 6 in one inning and just punt? Just a lack of energy

Wait till we get tomorrow's "pointless day game on a Friday" energy.

I might be weird, but I think I'd prefer Hall over Ashby in pecking order these days.  Mostly due the walks from ashby and the huge percent of balls that bounce 12 feet short of the plate.    He's just too wild and so many non competitive pitches.

Then when there's 3 balls he so rarely throws his 99 fastball, chooses a breaking ball that can go anywhere instead

Nothing like continuing to walk guys with a lead. Been doing it all day, why stop now?

Six walks in seven+ innings is way too many.
