Can’t get myself to blame anything but the ninth in this one. Those AB’s after Yelich double just can’t happen. Mitchell going down looking just can’t happen. Lara had to make contact.

hamilton throw terrible but chaos happens when you make contact with guys on.

Yeah. Lara and Mitchell were the big ABs in the 9th that killed us. I get a kick out of people saying that Yan just made a great pitch to Mitchell,

well ok, but you still need to swing the mother freaking bat in that situation

I agree.

For all the railing about hits w/RISP, there was a lot of immaturity late tonite in situations where you didn't necessarily need a base hit. Lara & Mitchell need to simply be better in the 9th inning. Then I have to listen to Rottino talking about 'lifting one to the OF'. If that's the approach then you're most likely taking yourself out of your usual approach, which IMO is pretty moronic. I wish Morel was trying to 'lift one' in the 10th; I suspect our chances of getting out of the inning would've been much, much better. And Chourio in the top of the 10th........such a talented kid, but the good stretches followed by the backsliding, wow. His last trip to the plate was downright comical.

And while the offense cost them this one, Harrison made a horrible 0-2 pitch on the Lindor HR.

Kinda feel like people are starting to see what I was saying about Chourio early in the year that was apparently super controversial.

He's fine.  He's not even close to our biggest problem on offense but when you're a top 3 prospect and the team gives you a contract like that before you've ever played a game, they kind of want star production, not just he's a good hitter production.  And we're now 1,600 plate appearances into his career.  Yes he can still improve and get to the star level but every year he doesn't get there makes it less likely that he'll eventually figure it out.

I said the same and some here thought I was disrespecting Ted Williams

True, but we don't have to be happy with "ok."

Maybe we've all placed far too much importance on his success to this team, but the way our line-up is constructed, he just has to be better than "ok" since we don't have much else to pick up his slack.

We have a lot of guys, who judging on their full season performance, are doing "ok" but we have no one that we can say has been far better than "ok."  Maybe Bauers?

Bauers is batting .272/.883. He's doing ok too. Chourio is a substantially better fielder.

He is a reliever we picked up at the deadline.  There is no way he's going to be good.

JoJo: 3.35 ERA, 1.3 WHIP

Ashby: 3.28 ERA, 1.36 WHIP

Maybe Hook and Henderson find something extra in JoJo.

I watched that Webb guy twice.     I can’t believe he is their closer.

Their pitching is bottom-5 in the league by FIP.

Near the top of the league in hitting and defense, but they are going nowhere without pitching.

All in all not a terrible night with the dodgers and cubs losing.

I’m at the point I’d rather have the braves lose a bunch now

I actually think they traded for some good starters which is their weakness.  But you can’t be blowing these ninth inning leads.    They’ve had some tough losses.

The pivotal play in the game came with 2 on and 2 on in the last of the 8th. A check swing roller down the first base line hit the bag and bounced away turning an easy out into a run scoring double. That was followed by a single that drove in 2 runs to make it 4-3

Between pitchers coming back from injuries and the deadline pickups the Cubs pitching staff is a lot different now than it was for much of the season.

I know there are people who think that looking at anything other than full season stats is cherry picking, but in the case of the Cubs pitching the recent stats are probably more relevant.

The last two nights they got 7 shutout innings from both Gausman and Holmes and Palencia is just coming back from injury.

something that wasn't mentioned-

I wish that 0-2 pitch by Megill to morel was either a curveball in the dirt (risky with a man on third admittedly), or a fastball above the zone. Just no need to throw a pitch in the strike zone on 0-2.

At the end of the day, Ortiz makes that throw home for the out with ease, and the Brewers play on. Will be interesting to see if Bunty is punished for that terrible, game-losing play, or if a double standard exists.

Deja vu all over again. Brewers kind of stagnating with a handful game lead late in the season, certain posters obsessing over the Cubs for some reason, Cubs not really showing any sign of being able to make up those 5 games. Sure it could happen, but I don't see it. Remaining schedule being used as some kind of indication that the Cubs can't possibly lose to a bad team, despite doing it 45 times.

If the Brewers do cough that up, it typically means they are faceplanting anyway and who cares about the Cubs, or the Cubs are some kind of 2018 Brewers stretch. I really don't understand the handwringing over the Cubs. They'll finish where they finish and have to win playoff games regardless.
